BaseCamp 4.3.0.2 BETA is Now Available

BaseCamp 4.3.0.2 BETA is now available and can be downloaded here:

http://developer.garmin.com/apps/BC/BaseCampBeta_4.3.0.2.exe.zip

You will need to unzip the file before installing.

This release does not support XP.

You do not have to uninstall BaseCamp 4.2.5 and it will not overwrite that installation. The BETA and an official release of BaseCamp will live side-by-side but must be used separately. However the 4.3.0.1 BETA will be replaced.

Below is a list of changes. This is only a BETA release.

Added “Find Intersection” to the Find menu
Added parsing of the primary find text into address search fields
Improved ordering of auto-complete results
Improved street auto-complete results when searching for streets with prefixes and suffixes
Improved some usability issues with address and intersection searching
Improved recovery from corrupted cache information from device maps

Post here if you have questions.

The BETA is currently only for English users.

Before using this release, back up your data.

Please post any bugs you may find here. This release is to assist us in testing with a wider user base and wider set of devices. Bugs may be present, and any feedback is welcomed.

NOTE: We are aware of several issues with address searching on devices. We ask our users to please test this very well and let us know of the issues you find. Some of them will be duplicates of issues we have already found, but the advanced address search is new for this release and we need a good test bed to be sure that the feature is working correctly when we do the full release.

Again, thank you for all who participate.
  • Task Launcher icon begone!!! :D

(It can now be turned off)
  • Actually I have a question.

Why on a Win7 x64 SP1 box does BC (for a while now) create .bak files (in the database folder) whereas it doesn't (for the same version) on WinXP SP3? I often open BC but don't change anything but yet .bak's are created? Just wondering.
  • I am not sure I know the answer to that question. It shouldn't hurt anything, but I'll look into it. Big software system. Lots of stuff and/or things go on in the background.
  • So far, each of the 4.3.0.x beta's have failed to read my List Data file so I have not installed them as I have to much data to have to work through a single "collection" view. Is there anything I can do to get past this while we are still in Beta mode?
  • Not sure what you mean. The beta will NOT copy your existing database and settings if that's what you mean. You can do that manually though (what I did). That way you have separate production and beta copies.
  • We are chasing down an auto-update problem. Has anyone been able to automatically update from their 4.3.0.1 Beta? If not you can still download the release in the link above, but it should have done it automatically.
  • Thank you for the new beta.

As always I first took a look on the routing preferences. :)

Is it possible that the functions behind the radio buttons "Curvy roads" and "Shorter Distance" are swapped/interchanged?
"Shorter Distance" results not necessarily in a shorter route but in a more curvy one.

    Regards
    Canario

Pretty simple. I download the Beta and install it. The first check it does is the List Data...at this point it fails trying to read the previous versions List Data File. So, I say "Fix..." and it proceeds to through out the List Data file and leave just the "collection" with no Lists/Folders.

So, then I click on File->Restore from pervious version. After the "it's going to restart" popup's, BC proceeds to attempt a Restore. Upon restart, the app fails with the List Data error again.

This same process happened with the previous 4.2 betas and at the their request, I sent my Database to the Dev Team and receive NO feedback as to what the issue was...it is obviously still there.
  • The autoupdate process should be fixed. It will not affect your 4.2.5 install.
  • Search function is now far faster and seems to work very well. Only found one issue, if you do a search of User Data with Centre of View selected in the location box, it doesn't work, instead you get user data from the currently selected list or folder.

My only (recurring) wish is that Cities had their own radio button, and weren't listed under POIs :) (but maybe I'm the only one to think this is illogical )
