I have obtained a number of gpx files lately from EveryTrail.com and Blogs of people who have done cycling trips. All say they are gpx files but as soon as I try and import them into Basecamp I get an 'unknown error opening import file'.
Any ideas?
Well I have the names and addresses (in a MapSource file) of people born, raised, and died there about 150 years ago. Part of my family line comes from those people. I met some of them (descendents of course) in 1985 when I was there.
BTW, unlike most Americans I can understand most Scots. However I just nod at Yorkshiremen. I'm told they speak English but I'm not convinced of that :p
That trip was just my Dad and I so yes. However, although he videoed the whole trip I don't have (nor will I get) a copy of it due to "family issues". I did have the good sense to write down dates, names etc for the photo's I took however. No handheld GPS units back then so I created waypoints from maps and my memory some years ago.
Based on what we discussed earlier concerning map sets. With Base Camp can I use TOPO USA 2008 to click and drag to capture a state or region that I would then download to an SD card? Similiar to how I created my map sets in Mapsource?
Yes, but to be precise BaseCamp doesn't transfer maps. Instead it launches another (independent) program called MapInstall. It allows you to select regions (and down to the map segment level if you're masochistic) but it cannot save your selection(s) in a file like MapSource can.
BTW MapInstall is installed automatically with BaseCamp.
Thanks again, I may play with that for something different. I must admit for saving map sets, it would appear that Mapsource is much more streamlined but Base Camp seems to have many more features for OSM, etc...
But these days there's really no need to 'save mapsets' ... once you've created a map you like simply save the .img file, job done. Then it's ready to be copied across to your GPS anytime you want and now that generally any Garmin GPS will accept anynameyoulike.img files you can give them names that reflect what they are.
