Installing Maps to microSD cards

Garmin BaseCamp 4.2.5
Garmin eTrex 30 3.40

Previously installed Garmin TOPO U.S. 24K Southeast DVD map.

Then installed 32GB microSD card which pc does see in it's factory FAT32 format.

Purchased downloadable version of Garmin's North America BirdsEye Satellite Imagery.

While trying to use BaseCamp to install, Basecamp says I only have 131MB of free space. How do I get BaseCamp to install onto the microSD card?
  • My Montana 600t will only accept 297mb of data at a time.

You are doing better than me. I am only ever able to download about 230mb at a time.

Jason, that seems to be how it is done. If you are using BirdsEye Imagery like myself, you will run out of memory space real quick. At that point this method begins to make sense and appreciated.

I download just the area I plan to hike into BaseCamp. I plot my planned course. Then upload the map and data to my eTrex 30. Once I hike that area, I send the data of the actual hike from the device and save it into BaseCamp where I can then compare it with the planned hike. Once everything is saved to the PC, I clear the SD card and then repeat the process for the net trip.

Now is there a way to increase that 297mb limit? That is what I'd like to know since I am using a 32GB SD card. I live near the Ocala National Forest and a BirdsEye Imagery map of that area is 2GB. It be nice to have all that on one map instead of ten smaller ones.

we have a new Montana 600t,, we can't figure out how to push out a new map from mapsource to GPS. We review everything but nothing works, I added a waypoint to the nw map and it recognize the transfer,, but we don't see it on the GPS. yes I see the GPS and EXTRA DRIVE on window explorer.
it also talks about transfer data set up for garmin,, I can't find anywhere on base camp or mapsourse for that option. it does recognize the garmin so I am guessing it sees it...

    this shouldn't be that complicated.
  • You can't simply push a new map to the Montana .... unless that map is already unlocked for it, or not locked in the first place. So which map are you talking about?

How are you sending waypoints? They will appear in Waypoint manager if sent correctly.

Note that nothing will appear unless your card is formatted as FAT32, so check that it is. You can check to see if the file is actually being sent. Both Basecamp and Mapsource create a file named temp.gpx in the GPX folder. You should be able to view it using Windows explorer. If it's not there you haven't sent it.
