where does Basecamp store its data?

Can anyone help?

I have Basecamp on my Laptop and PC, I'd like to keep the two synchronised but I can't find where Basecamp stores its data files.

Which files would I need to keep everything in sync with my latest routes/tracks etc.

thanks

Bob

Well I created a folder in Dropbox "Basecamp". Changed the default to the Dropbox folder. I copied my previously made backup file to this folder. Started BaseCamp and tried to restore the backup. I get error message.

"Restore failed The following problems occured: The backup file 'C\users\name\Dropbox\Basecamp 2013-09-08.Backup' is invalid or read only"

    So now what?

Mapsource worked much better. I have had nothing but problems with BaseCamp.

Don't copy your backup file into the Dropbox folder. Just use BaseCamp on Dropbox with an empty database first. Then do a Restore from within BaseCamp on your backup file.
  • I wonder about the practicality of using Dropbox. It is the syncing time that worries me. My BaseCamp database is about 1.4 GB. About 1 GB are BirdsEye images. Another big chunk are geotagged photos. It takes a long time to move that amount of data up in the sky and take it down to the Dropbox folders on other PC's. Is this mostly a one-time thing or will it need to be repeated whenever I change BaseCamp data on one of the PC's?

Most day to day changes will be for routes, tracks and waypoints. I believe they are stored in AllData.gdb and AllData.gdb.bak. Those files are only about 20 MB each. Syncing those files only could be OK. I trust that Dropbox is smart enough to sync on a file for file basis, rather than full folders?
  • Since bandwidth costs a lot for Dropbox too, I assume they are smart enough to transfer only the files that are changed...
Birdseye images and geotagged photos are stored in separate files.
