Errors when trying to restore backups

I've used MapSource for several years and I'm trying to use BaseCamp

Using BaseCamp V4.2.1 I created a backup with a unique name
When I try to restore this backup I get an error message

Is there a problem with the backup feature in BaseCamp 4.2.1

I could restore that file without a hitch.

I believe the problem is that the backup file is in BaseCamp's data folder.
"Big Lynn" is the folder you picked for your alternate database, right? You shouldn't have anything else in there. The data for BaseCamp is everything in that folder.
We are trying to delete that folder before the backup and that is why it fails.
Move the backup file to anywhere else on your disk, but not in BaseCamp's data folder and the restore should work.
It's pretty much if you mess with the folder where the data is (that's not just the "Database" folder) you are on your own.

I didn't quite understand what you were telling me but I think I figured it out and I'll state my results here as it may help others.

    1. I created separate sub-directories (folders) for each database that I wanted.
These will contain the database that's based on the database name I created
That's the only thing in these folders
I think you can have unlimited databases.

    2. I created a separate folder that will only contain my backups of each database.
Each backup will have it's own unique name.

    3. This will allow me to copy the database backups to a memory stick and transfer them to my laptop or netbook for use when I'm on the road.

The problem I was having previously was that the backups were saved to the same folder as the database.
Once I separated the backups from the database folders everything works OK.

    thanks for the help.

    That's what I'm doing too.

    e.g.

    <Pathname>\BaseCamp\Stuart's Collection

    <Pathname>\BaseCamp\Other Collection

where the bold names are the database names created in BaseCamp.

Each BC database is separate but under one folder (<Pathname>\BaseCamp) for easy (manual) backup etc.
