I already have a subset of the 2013.30 maps install on my zumo 550 using MapInstall (it has insufficent space for the whole of Weatern Europe).
Now everytime I plug the zumo into the computer, Garmin Express says there is an update and starts downloading the whole of the 2013.30 maps again. Then it discovers there is insufficient space to install the whole set of maps and aborts the install.
Why, why, why doesn't it check the space before it starts? and why, why, why does it not realise that it already has a subset of the 2013.30 maps installed already? And why does it not know that I already have all the maps installed on my PC?
As many, many other users have commented, Garmin designers have lost the plot. Either that, or all their software is now developed by school kids in an after school computer class.
In the old days when Garmin devices and software worked, I had MapSource (with a working Find and Route Planning facility), a StreetPilot 2610 which had reliable Routing Algorithms, MapInstall and Webupdater, all reliable and working properly.
Now I have Basecamp (which does not even offer a way to search for Towns or Cities and it is impossible to find an address by Postcode, and it cannot find a street unless the cursor is already located on it), A Zumo 550 which does not provide any information on the Map screen and requires me to constantly take my hand of the bars to press buttons and Garmin Express which appears to have been developed by people with no experience of Garmin devices.
I am embarrased to tell people that I still use a Garmin device. My friends used to think I was a GPS guru (I have 5 Garmin devices). Those who know just pity me.
