Am I missing something?

Greetings,

Maybe I haven't dug deep enough, or I'm missing something, but please allow me to explain my issue and hopefully gain some insight into what I should be doing.

I'm running BaseCamp 4.1.1 on a Windows 7 machine. I started playing around with the "Routes" feature, in anticipation of a trip from FL to TN. After numerous trials and error, I got it laid out the way I want to take. I've used different ways to send it to my Nuvi 2555LMT. The normal "Send to Device", "Copy and paste" through BaseCamp, and "dragging" it to the device through BaseCamp. In all ways, it shows up on my GPS and I can view it through BaseCamp, as long as my GPS is connected to the computer.

The problem arises when I try to view it on the GPS. I understand that it should be visible through "Trip Planner", but I've never been able to find it. On initial turn on, I enter the "Trip Planner" and all I get is the spinning hourglass. Somewhere else, I read that meant that it was processing the route and to let it run. I've let it run in excess of 4 hours, with no change. I've even split the route into 2 segments, thinking an 800 mile route might be to large too process. No change. If I connect the GPS back to to the computer, I can see the routes are listed in "Internal Storage" on my device.

Is there something I need to do prior to initially sending my Routes?

Thank you.
  • You're not missing anuthing, other than the fact it's not clear how/when a route/trip will fail on the GPS, as it appears to depend on the length and complexity of the route, but I suspect you're beyond it's limits and may have to break the route down even further.

For info this is what Garmin say about importing trips into your GPS:

To access a transferred route in a nuvi 2505 series device:

    1.Touch Apps
    2.Touch Trip Planner
3.Allow time for the device to automatically import the trip/route
These Trip Planner devices will take several minutes to automatically import trips into the Trip Planner. The import will automatically begin, but no message will appear on the device indicating that the import is happening. Once the import is complete, all transferred routes will be displayed under a category called Unscheduled Trips in the Trip Planner. Until the trips show up in Trip Planner, please do not turn off the device or connect it to a computer.

*Please note: When routes are imported to your Garmin device, the route may change due to navigation settings within your device.

Well.... that seems to have done the trick. Turns out that one portion of my route kept "puking". Kept dividing that segment, until I was left with just a 50 mile section. Deleted it and let Base Camp recalculate the route. Loaded fine.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
