Cutting and Pasting Between Applications

In Mapsource I can highlight a number of waypoints, copy them (^C or RMB/Copy), then paste them into an Excel spreadsheet or other application. That doesn't work in Basecamp as nothing seems to be in the Windows clipboard so there is nothing to paste.

That's fairly basic Windows functionality, is the omission deliberate?

Going back to the original topic of the thread...

I was quite surprised to see I could copy/paste data from the Properties and Route Directions tabs of the Route Properties dialogue box into other Windows applications.

If there's a wish list running somewhere I'd like to add 'Enable copy/paste of waypoint data between Basecamp and other Windows applications.' to it please (I realise I can currently use Mapsource as an intermediary to achieve the same result).

Regarding the issue I had with Basecamp failing to create a route: I've now updated those maps to the 2013.3 version and its working fine. I've no idea if the issue was with the map set or how it was installed on this PC but it's OK now.

    That made me laugh :).

I'm expecting great things of v4.2!

  • Must be the US map. I've just created a number of routes on the CN EU map of 200 hundred miles plus with 20 plus waypoints and all worked perfectly. Wonder what the problem is?

From what I've read it seems to relate to certain areas of the map rather than waypoints and routes (that's just my guess rather than something I know). Try browsing around Modragone in Italy for example. I'm able to crash Mapsource at will just moving round the map at a 0.2m zoom level (that wasn't my error, I was just testing an error reported here).

It crashed on me in a different area of Europe some time ago but I can't remember where it was. Having Googled the problem at the time and seeing other people with similar issues, I just switched to Basecamp as I knew there was no point in reporting the error.

    Can't find Modragone <snip>

That'll be because I can't type, try Mondragone. It's reported in post 3 of the trhead I linked to and Googling 'Mondragone Mapsurce' shows other people who can repeat the issue so it seems to be a hard fault. I wish I could remember the map area where I experienced a crash but given Mapsource is a dead product it's probably irrelevant anyway.

  • Hey ... that's better, found it, but can't get Mapsource to crash there no matter what I do. As you say, probably irrelevant anyway :)

I jumped into about the middle of this thread and read to the end. Apologies if this has already been covered closer to the beginning.

You can easily import waypoints into Excel. It will happily accept .GPX files on data import. Just tell Excel that it's an XML file (GPX is just a specific form of XML). Yeah, I know it's not quite as convenient as cut/paste but it's pretty simple.
