Cloud Storage

Every Garmin user will have 150MB of cloud storage to sync your data (waypoints, routes, tracks, etc.) between different computers. This should be fairly seemless, just log in with your MyGarmin account, drag and drop data into your cloud storage device and it will be synced on the cloud so can access it if you run BaseCamp on a different machine.

Part I of Find Rework

BaseCamp will now search for several data types concurrently (like the Mac version has been doing for a while). There is no city selector box anymore (you should just be able to search for e.g. "sea world, san diego, ca" from anywhere on the map). We added a find menu. You can search in your data as well now (useful if your collection has grown very large).

Find is still a work in progress, but any feedback would be more than welcome. There will be further find improvements in 4.2.

Custom POIs

BaseCamp can now display and search for Custom POIs (contained in GPI files) that are on the device.

Report Map Errors

Now you can just right-click on the map and report a mapping error directly to Garmin. The form will be prefilled with the map product and the location. Reporting map errors does make a difference and our cartography team is very eager to receive them. So report away!

It was my impression that the license agreement is supposed to cover cloud storage as well, but that's not really my area of expertise. I'll try to find out.

Thanks Falagar, I completely understand that this isn't your area. I appreciate all your work on the software as well as helping people in the forums. I just read through the EULA again and don't see any mention of cloud usage. Some people might be surprised to read about what can be done with their "Adventures" however. I would hope that we have a greater expectation of privacy with our cloud data, but in the absence of a published policy, how could we know?

Adventure Data remains the property and copyright of the original author. However, by submitting any Adventure Data to Garmin, you give Garmin a transferable, perpetual, royalty-free, irrevocable license and right to reproduce, create derivative works of, license, distribute, sell, publicly display and publicly perform the submitted Adventure Data for any purpose and without restriction or obligation to you.
  • In the US, you also add the state (like Miami, FL) to avoid confusion. It might work on Polish maps if you add the "wojewodstwo".

Yes, it helps. Format "street, city, region" works better.
  • Just loaded 4.1. Went to look at my Waypoints. They default sort by symbol. I checked to sort by name and decending. I use the sort gear on the list window.

Reload basecamp and the waypoints come back sorted by symbol. I never look at my waypoints by symbol. I like Names sorted in alpha numberbic order. If I make a selection it would be nice for it to be remembered.

    Same problem as Joel
Using win7 64 bits, cit navigator europe 2013.3 (latest version)
Finding cities/places with the new search tool does NOT find the city/place ITSELF even if it is centered on the map. Only street names containing the name of the place/city are returned. When a small place doe not have any street with its own name included, nothing is found!! really seems to be a bug in your new search tool.

However if I try to find POI's included in the map, by e.g entering "camping" those are found.

Thanks for improvements! especially route dialog and poi's from device.

I have no problems with the toolbars. Even the settings of 4.05 were maintained. That was a nice surprise.... :)

    Cloud data

    Nice solution / improvement!
    But...
    1) Slow.. with adsl with a relative slow upload speed..
    2) I cannot see what I have put into the cloud. I think it would be very useful if you can see that data in the same structured way by e.g. clocking the cloud symbol....
    3) difficult to understand why a user defined location of the database is not also made possible

    Kind regards
  • To see what's in the cloud just click on the Cloud symbol in the left hand top pane and it's shown in the left hand bottom pane.

Unfortunately folder/list structure is lost, this really needs to be retained.

BaseCamp will always search from the center of the screen. Unless you type in a city name in the search box (or the location box), so if you search for "starbucks, seattle, wa" BaseCamp will recenter the map on Seattle and search for Starbucks from there.

Either I'm missing something or this isn't working for me. Attached is a screenshot - Rutesheim is currently centred on the map. When, in the search box, I type in the town 'Ditzingen' the map does not recentre on Ditzingen although BaseCamp has found it and displays a list of POI's to the right. Clicking the first POI in the list does not recentre the map around the POI (or town) but shows it to the top right of the screen (Screenshot 2) As I said, somethings not quite right here or I am not understanding this search functionality very well.
  • Works for me but only if I select a Garmin CN map, doesn't work on OSM mapping but possibly not meant to?

BaseCamp 4100 - Toolbars once again refuse to remember placement when restarting the application.

Regardless of where I place the PlayBack toolbar, when I restart BaseCamp, the toolbar always returns above all the other toolbars, taking up valuable screen real estate.

[nods] I get a similar issue. In my case the View toolbar is on it's own separate 'line' above the line with the other toolbars on in which there is plenty of space. Drag it down so there is only one line of tools, restart Basecamp and it's back on it's own line. No problem, I thought, I'll just uncheck the View toolbar as I don't use it. Unfortunately unchecking the View toolbar also removes the Map Tools toolbar; please see attachments.

    This is on Win7x64.
