Bug: BaseCamp shows roads twice

I had a look to the same Dutch 'Topo Nederland' Map in MapSource and BaseCamp vs 4.0.5 and I noticed that BaseCamp show the N36 road near my house twice:
The dark yellow road on the left site of the BaseCamp image, is the N36 at the correct position.
But the light yellow road with the N36 label more to the right is incorrect. At that position is no road.

The correct view is visible in the MapSource image.

Did you read what was posted? They are aware of it and can replicate it.

As for your other points, Basecamp doesn't have to download maps from the GPS. although unlike Mapsource it is able to do. You can install the maps on your PC if you wish.

Postcode search is due in 4.2

Once you're used to Basecamp you'll find it's just as easy, if not easier, than Mapsource, plus it can do stuff that Mapsource cannot.

Note though you're quite at liberty to continue using Mapsource should you wish :)

all you get from garmin UK is "weve never heard of that before" even though they have been told often enough.
postcode search should have been in 1.1.1.1 this is the 21st century.
i am used to basecamp and i think its rubbish and bulked out with many new features im not interested in.
you cannot install maps from a nuvi 2595LM onto a PC, neither is it compatible with mapsource.

im happy to delete the global map and get it out of the way, can i do that?

can i use mapsource and maps installed on one computer to make a route quickly and without pulling my hair out, then flash drive it onto basepants and then into my satnav?

First is your opinion, and of others. Some actually enjoy the new features :)

Second is wrong, you can install maps onto a PC (when you do both Basecamp and Mapsource can use them) and your 2595 will work with Mapsource, although you need to set your GPS to Mass Storage Mode. To do that:

    1. Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
    2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
    3. The Developers Screen will pop up
    4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
    5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
    6. Shut down NUVI and hookup to Computer USB cable
    7. Start NUVI and it should recognize it is hooked up to the computer.

As an alternative to step 1 above, you can bring up the Nuvi's "dashboard" screen, then press and hold the speedometer for about 10 seconds to access the developer screen.

ah now, if that works, i shall bow down and worship at your feet..........

    edit; no it doesnt.
the unit does connect to mapsource now, sort of, it recognises the 2595 but even with all 4 boxes ticked for "receive from device" mapsource wont receive maps or routes from it only waypoints which it shows on my old 2009 maps.

i suspected as much, i was told pre-installed maps cant be copied. (i cant even print maps there is a "limitation" on them.)
a popup appears on mapsource stating "the selected device has no maps on it" and "the selected device has no routes on it"

This looks like the ticket for me to be able to have my 2455 play nice with MS. Is there any downside or loss of other functionality when "auto detect" goes away?

I have no idea how you guys figured all this stuff out, but I'm certainly happy to stand on the shoulders of giants.

    Thanks.

    Not to my knowledge.

I have an MP3 player that also has MTP/mass-storage/auto-detect options and I leave it in mass-storage mode. I've had issues, with some machine, with MTP/auto-detect.

Since MS handles mass-storage mode, but not MTP, and your 1490T (only) implements mass-storage I'd leave your 2455LT that way and be happy :)

  • I didn't say Mapsource would receive maps ... to get maps to work with Mapsource you will need to install maps onto your PC, then both Basecamp and Mapsource will use them. I assume since you've had your GPS for a while you've updated your maps? If so run GarminMapUpdater and select 'Download to PC' option.

Your 2595 cannot send routes/trips to either Basecamp or Mapsource, it can only receive them.

...but even with all 4 boxes ticked for "receive from device" mapsource wont receive maps...

FYI MapSource has never been able to copy maps from a device. It is able to retrieve a list of maps on a device but it looks for a specific map filename (\Garmin\gmapsupp,img) and nuvi's don't use that name.

As for routes MS will read them if your unit supports them and has some.
  • The latest nuvis like his 2595 though use trips, not routes, and neither Basecamp or Mapsource can read them :)

Of course. I wasn't sure what model was being used.

Trips are one way :D Routes from MS/BC are converted to trips (in the nuvi) but the reverse isn't true.
