Bug: BaseCamp shows roads twice

I had a look to the same Dutch 'Topo Nederland' Map in MapSource and BaseCamp vs 4.0.5 and I noticed that BaseCamp show the N36 road near my house twice:
The dark yellow road on the left site of the BaseCamp image, is the N36 at the correct position.
But the light yellow road with the N36 label more to the right is incorrect. At that position is no road.

The correct view is visible in the MapSource image.
  • Basecamp is showing the basemap as well as your other map. Unsure why as I can't reproduce it but it's been reported before:

    https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?32237-Both-Detailed-Map-from-nuvi-1450-amp-basic-map-showing-at-same-time&p=154776#post154776

It may be something to do with map transparency but that's something beyond my understanding, hopefully Falagar or someone else can help

I would love to know how this is happening - BaseCamp has never been able to show multiple maps at once, but you appear to be seeing the basemap under you other map.

    Very Interesting!

This is interesting indeed. I don't have an explanation for this yet. Please keep reporting if you are seeing this. Hopefully at some point we will be able to reproduce this and fix it.

Is that map a Garmin product? Does anyone else notice this issue with that map?

Those images make a very strong case that BaseCamp is indeed capable of displaying multiple maps at one time, a feature Garmin loyalists have been BEGGING for.... for a very, very long time.

The only appropriate fix now would be to finally officially enable this hidden feature.

    :p

Not sure about that map but the one quoted in the other thread certainly is as it's CN NA 2013.30 :)
  • I had once with an OSM map a similar problem, see
    http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewforum.php?id=26

the third entry from ligfietser shows a workaround which solved the probelm.

Sorry , the link does not work. I try to enter the respective answer:

Yes, this is a known mkgmap issue. It seems the gmapsupp img's become transparent when viewed in Basecamp (if they are read from SD card or GPS unit). See this screenshot: http://forum.gps.nl/download/file.php?id=410 and read (in Dutch, so use with google translate) this thread http://forum.gps.nl/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=36229 or this page: http://www.javawa.nl/gpskaart.html

There is a workaround and that involves replacing the Basecamp "Global Application Basemap v2.gmap" (which does not contain anything interesting at all) by an empty one. This map is located in C:\Program Files\Garmin\BaseCamp (or another folder is also possible).
This should be the link to the empty map:

  • The 'Topo Nederland' map is made by Garmin; it has nothing to do with OSM or mkgmap. Secondly, the OSM problem (that already has been solved for some time) occurred when BaseCamp read the map from the device. In this case, because the topic starter shows a screenshot of MapSource too, it must be the computer-installed version (since MapSource cannot use maps on a device).

This is on our to-do list. But this case is really just a bug, not a hidden feature. Sorry.

You are right. But nevertheless the described effect looks also like a transparency problem. So it could be that the same work around could be feasibel here also.
