How To Continue Route?

Every time I try and plan a route with Basecamp I have to abandon it in frustration. I start the route inserting points where I want them happily swapping backwards and forwards with the route tool and the hand tool to move the map around and then invariably I get halfway through the route and Basecamp has decided I've finished with this route and there seems to be no way of continuing the route I was planning. In the route properties tab the "add waypoint" symbol is always greyed out. If I try clicking on the last point in the route and then add another point it just starts a new route. I've only got 3 miles down the road with 5 points AAGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can someone please tell me how you can continue adding to a route you were working on.
God I hate this software. Couple that with USB 1.0 technology and their latest Edge 800 "The device is connected with limited speed. This may affect the performance of BaseCamp"......that's your device you rip-off merchants at Garmin!! (oh and the discoverer maps that cost £200 come on 2nd hand micro SD cards!)
Garmin should be utterly ashamed of themselves although they're probably way too busy drinking champagne and laughing at the mugs that have actually believed the reviews and bought their shoddy unfit for purpose products. It really says something about a company when they can't even be bothered to check the manual is correct.
  • I can create waypoints and arrange them in the routing roster to create a route, however still more cumbersome than simply keeping the routing tool active while switching back and forth between tools such as the hand tool and zoom tool.

On the Mac version of BaseCamp, use the hand shortcut (spacebar) to pull the map instead of switching tools, and use the hot keys for zoom and the route remains the focus. Ultimately having the full functionality of MapSource would be ideal but it's a very slow process it seems.

Not perfect, but a really good work around for now.

My first time using the forum and failed to post under what should have been a Mac related issue. Sorry about that and appreciate all the help despite being in the wrong place.

On a slightly different topic I notice you can no longer pull the route around ( like a wet noodle) by pulling on the direction arrows as I could on the older version. Anyone know why that is or if there is a new command or method to do that? Hopefully that function isn't gone for good.

Just answered my own question: You now have to hold down the Option key and the route becomes movable.

    See post #24 of https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?29261-Beta-4-0-0-5-Changes
  • The best way has already been described above. Move the end point of the route to where you want the new end point. Then use the insert tool to add waypoints between the old end point and the new one. Works really well :)

Stumbled across this thread after experiencing the same problem in creating a route. 2018 and seems nothing has been done to improve this. In Mapsource it was relatively easy to extend routes. Basecamp is a step back in this respect (unless I missed a new features)
  • It's easy in BaseCamp too ... what issue are you having?
  • The problem with the work around is that the straight line that is created can obstruct the trail you are trying to follow and hence the places you want to position your via points. it is a step backward from being able to extend the route as was previously possible in Mapsource.

This is especially true for circuits or when the trail loops back.
  • The work around was for a particular issue. To simply extend a route hover the mouse over the end point until you see a black circle. Now click and you can extend the route. No real difference to MapSource.
  • In Mapsource you would hover over the end point, click right and select extend route from the list. This is not happening for me in Basecamp. I'm seeing no option that will extend the route.
  • As posted, hover over end point until it turns into a black circle, click and away you go ...
