Ok ... so, all I want is to be able to plan routes on my pc, load them into my Zumo 660, stick it on my motorcycle and enjoy the road. I'm new to the Garmin world and have been workin on planning my first trip in BaseCamp for days ... Ughhh ... (did i mention that i have a degree in Computer Science?) .. this thing is frustrating me, making me feel stupid and I'm beginning to think that Garmin is like McAfee .. Do I need to be a Genius to make this thing work? Is it really full of glitches or am I missing the secret code? I've tried to call support (I'll PAY!!) - does anyone really work at Garmin? Ughhh ... I'm unwinding my 2012 technology mentality back to 1990 and figuring out that BaseCamp and the Zumo 660 really aren't friendly toward one another ... Just how do these algorythms work in the Zumo when they recalculate the "route" I created in BaseCamp? Sometimes they show up in my "Custom Routes" and sometimes I have to "Import" them ... and the one route that WILL NOT show up in Custom Routes ends up with 100 more miles on it after I import it ... but the route looks the same when I preview it... Ughhh ... my iPhone maps are much more intuitive .. but that's not what I bought the Garmin for ... HELP!! I'm LOST!!!!!
I've been struggling with some of the same issues. At this point I'm:
Put your start and end waypoints into BaseCamp.
Put the other waypoints that define your route into BaseCamp.
Click on "new route", simply close the box that would allow you to enter your start and end.
Use the BaseCamp routing tool to click, and set, your starting point.
Then continue to use the routing tool to set "vias" along the route, making sure you're clicking on the route that has your "in between" waypoints on it.
Keep selecting "vias" along the route until you get to the end point and select that waypoint.
You should now see, on the BaseCamp screen, the complete route that you have created. Going to properties the only thing you should see is start and end waypoints and the "vias" that you created in building the route.
When you "send to" your GPS, send the routes, the start and end waypoints, and all the other waypoints you want to have show up on your screen as you ride along.
Once sent to the GPS you should be able to use the + and - screen buttons to zoom out and see the whole route.
I can't remember, but my Zumo 665 has under "Tools, Settings, Map" a "Map Autozoom" option. If you turn that option "off" I believe you can use the touch screen zoom in and out to set the display the way you want and it will stay that way.
The waypoints you set, and did not put in the route" will show up but the autozoom will not be active.
Give it a try, I think its what you are looking for.
Just started my new Garmin Zumo and realized my self how stupid I was to buy Garmin again ! Starting a Garmin device with the stupid software is like going back 10 years. Reading manuals, searching, trying, failing... Someone told me you could plan your trip on your PC and then load it to the device. For the moment, impossible to figure out how this could be done.
My parents bought Garmin some five years ago. Not myself, not one of my brothers was able to help them with the stupid system and it ended in the trash. Now they have their built in GPSes in their cars and using it smoothly.
