Import of .img files

Garmin has a suggested supplier of the Costa Rica map (listed on the Garmin website) that I have been using for a few years. But, I am not able to import the map as it is an .img file. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

The GMAPSUPP.IMG file for Costa Rica supplied by "Centro GPS y Rutas Satelitales SA", a Garmin recommended supplier.

From the filename that IMG is only intended to be used on your GPS and not BaseCamp/Mapsource etc. As pointed out by OSTROFF01 already BaseCamp won't recognize that IMG. Perhaps the supplier sells a BaseCamp/MapSource compatible version of the map.

    Additional

FYI gmapsupp.img is the default filename used by Garmin for its supplemental maps. Creating a device IMG with MapSource/MapInstall will silently overwrite that file if it already exists. Also, when purchasing a map product download from Garmin you'll get the same filename.

Many newer Garmin products, such as your 3490, support multiple IMG files so you don't have to use the default name. On my devices, that support this, I always rename any gmapsupp.img to something else. In my case I use

    gmapsupX.img

    where X is just a digit (1..9).

    This prevents accidental overwrites.

PS: I also backup IMG's to other media "just in case".

    Inport of .img files

I want to thank everyone for all their help. I have talked to Garmin (Jesse) and he made everything clear to just as you all did. I have contacted the distributor and am waiting for a reply but I think I already have the answers.

    Again, thanks everyone.
    Safe traveling all.

Try using ImgMod to adjust the gmapsupp.img file to be shown in BaseCamp.

And watch the JaVaWa site for the upcoming JaVaWa Device Manager in the next few weeks.

Better management of all you maps (and files) in any modern Garmin Sat Nav.

    Very crafty. :)
  • IMGmod has been retired, because JaVaWa Device Manager is available now: http://www.javawa.nl/jdm_en.html
  • What the heck are the Basecamp or Mapsource?

Can't I just drag and drop the .IMG file into the watch's folders? Which exact folder please?
