Cannot delete old routes previously sent to Nuvi 2555LMT

Using BC 3.3.1, I created a new route & sent it to my Nuvi 2555LMT
unplugged GPS
turned on gps, viewed route in gps "Trip Planner", its correct
then deleted this route, no other routes are shown, gps is empty
shut off gps.

plugged gps into usb & started BC 3.3.1
click "Internal Storage" first old route is still shown (there shouldn't be any as Nuvi is empty)
created second new route & sent just the second route to gps--exited BC & unplugged gps
Problem: turned on gps and checked "Trip Planner", now both the old first route and the new second route show.

my assumption: BaseCamp 3.3.1 will not allow the NUVI to flush the routes from Internal Storage when deleted.

Questions
1. Why do the routes that were deleted in the NUVI still show in "Internel Storage" when connected to BaseCamp 3.3.1?

2. How can I delete these old routes from "Internal Storage"?

Are there other people having the same problem??

The way it is everytime you create a new route and send it to the Nuvi you always end up with every route you have ever created plus the new route in the "Trip Planner" list---something is very very wrong.

I don't have this problem using BC 3.2.2
  • Not sure why the difference between the 2 Basecamp versions but what you're seeing is fairly typical. The routes are sent as a gpx file (normally temp.gpx), which is then merged by your nuvi into current.gpx. Unless you now delete the temp.gpx file it will be reloaded every time you boot your nuvi, as you're simply deleting the file from current.gpx. The solution is to delete temp.gpx from your gpx folder and then delete the file from your nuvi. Hope that helps.

That sounds like it may be a temporary work around but it sure is a lot of hasel to go through, I will have to see how that works out. I would think this can be corrected with a programing change as the old version was ok.

I hope FALAGAR jumps in and comments on this issue, hopefully he has some ideas.

    Thanks

Is the Nuvi 2555LMT an MTP device? Does it still show up as a drive in Windows File Explorer? If it doesn't have a drive letter, then it's MTP.

We will investigate what might be going on. What should happen is that we check the timestamp of temp.gpx. If it is newer than current.gpx we will read it, if it is older, we won't.

You say it worked in 3.2.2, so maybe there is a bug that got introduced in 3.3.

Thanks for reporting and sorry for the trouble.

Yes, it is a "MTP" device, but I also have the option to select "Mass Storage" or "Mass Storage Single Session" (whatever that is), I can try either one if you like.

    thanks for the feed back.

Not sure that will fully solve the OPs issue though, if temp.gpx remains on his nuvi it will reload it into current.gpx every time he boots. Only solution is for him to delete temp.gpx?

    Follow up on this issue:
I found another issue, that is,
that whenever I imported a route that was created in BC 3.2.2 (it was also edited there) and then recalculated it in BC 3.3.1 it would send ok to nuvi (showed a green check mark on "Internal Storage". But when I opened Nuvi "Trip Planner" an hourglass icon would be rotating on the screen. See my earlier post titled "Basecamp 3.3.1 import"

Based on the question about MTP, I changed to "Mass Storage" mode

using only BaseCamp 3.3.1, I created several routes and sent each one as it was created to the gps and then checked the "Trip Planner" I did not delete the "Temp.gpx" file at any time. All trips appeared ok and the "All Data" icon/folder always was empty when I re started BC 3.3.1. I did this for 5 new differnet routes.

Next I changed back to "MTP" mode and created another new route and sent it to the nuvi, when I opened "Trip Planner" an hourglass showd for a short period of time and then all routes showed correctly.

I continued on with this routine for a total of 8 different routes, the issue of the "Internal Storage" showing the routes that were previously sent to the Nuvi started to show after the 3rd route in "MTP" mode, it now listed last 3 routes. I now had 8 routes in the nuvi and then I deleted all 8. I then created a new route and selected just this one and sent it to the nuvi- the "Trip Planner" again showed the 3 previosuly routes and the new one I selected to send.
During several of the "Trip Planner" checks the Hourglass showed-(I consider this a problem as I never saw this when using BC 3.2.2)

At no time did I delete the "Temp.gpx" file and I unplugged the nuvi, exited BC 3.3.1 and re opened program and Nuvi for each added route.

I then changed back to "Mass Storage" mode.
I then deleted all routes in Nuvi and deleted the "Temp.gpx" file.

Created 3 new files and sent to NUvi, Trip Planner showed routes correctly (no hourglass issue)
going forward I did not delete the "Temp.gpx" file and continued to create two more routes, each time checking the "All, Data" icon/folder, it never listed any routes and all routes were shown correctly in the "Trip Planner" folder.

    Conclusion:
    1. I will be using the "Mass Storage" mode
    2. I will re-create all existing routes and new routes using only BC 3.3.1

I think this will eliminate the problems until a software update is looked at, as I didn't have these issue using BC 3.2.2

That is true. I was looking at the problem with BaseCamp goggles on. The cleanest solution would be for the device to delete temp.gpx after importing data from it.

Thank you for your investigations. So it definitely seems something is borked with MTP mode.

Just to double-check on that hourglass issue: the routes still show up on the device, correct? It just involves a little wait time?

Clean for him maybe, but not for those of us that use the way temp.gpx works as a feature rather than a bug. I send routes to my nuvi 1490 which can only have 10 active at any one time, but I can load as many as I want into temp.gpx and simply use the import function whenever I want one of them to show up in my nuvi's route list :)

The route may show after a delay.
At one time I sent three routes to the gps one of them was created in BC 3.3.1. The route created in BC 3.3.1 showed instantly in the Trip Planner and the hourglass turned and turned, I left it for 3-4 minutes and opted to delete the route that showed and the hourglass was still turning, never did see the remaining two routes. I shut off the gps. The result was I could not delete the transferred routes that were casuing the problem because they didn't show. I tryed several things to get rid of them and ended up going to "mass Storage" deleting all folders & files then copying from my back up all folders & files back to the Nuvi.

I think it depends on the length of the route as to how long it takes to show but then again sending 2 or more routes really goofs it up.
