A beta version of BaseCamp 3.2 is available (link below). Please read the following:

Warning

This is beta software, or an early peak at an incomplete product. We value your input, so we are providing this to you so that you can send us your comments and ideas. We have tested this beta version extensively, but that doesn't mean that there won't be bugs. Use at your own risk.

Notes
  • Please backup your existing data from BC 3.1 before running the beta.
  • The beta build requires you to allow Garmin to collect statistics on how you use BaseCamp to help us improve the application. This will be optional for the release of BaseCamp 3.2, but it is a required condition for using the beta.
  • We know that routing (especially long routes) have issues. We are working on the issue.
  • Activity profiles are still a work in progress, in particular migrating existing routing options.
  • We have had intermittent success testing BirdsEye Select because of some oddities with the servers. Please let us know your experience.

Changes
  • Moved the various property tabs to a separate dialog
  • Added swapping the map and data list UI regions
  • Added activity profiles to allow easier changes between common routing configurations
  • Added geocache search integration with OpenCaching.com
  • Added photo sharing site upload (currently for Picasa)
  • Added track statistics that correspond to the selection in the track points list
  • Added additional statistics to the elevation profile
  • Added display of elevation profile when batch editing routes or tracks
  • Added heart rate and cadence to the track points list and elevation profile
  • Added route to track conversion
  • Added display mode for geocaches
  • Added the "Duplicate" menu item for most user data types
  • Added continuation of route/track drawing when switching between tools
  • Added route avoidance checkboxes to the route options (such as "Avoid U-turns")
  • Added a basic dialog for creating routes
  • Added draw order control for new BirdsEye Imagery that is downloaded
  • Added user selection of application language (the beta is English only, so this doesn't have much of an impact yet)
  • Added option to restore the application to default settings
  • Added tips dialog when entering full screen mode
  • Added a keyboard shortcut to snap the map back to North up
  • Added file import/export support for the TCX file format.
  • Added file export support for tab-delimited and comma-delimited text
  • Added properties and create waypoint commands to the list of POIs that is displayed when hovering on the map
  • Added optional collection of analytics to help us improve the application
  • Added display of the detailed coverage region of card/device based maps
  • Added notification to user when updates are available for devices
  • Added receiving FIT course points and activity data from many fitness devices. These are converted into waypoints and tracks.
  • Changed geotagging photos from a track to add links to those photos in the track
  • Changed to not allow changing the location of geocaches when they are part of a route
  • Changed the divide tool to create a new waypoint or trackpoint at the division point
  • Fixed issue where we didn't always remove all waypoints created as part of a route

We've put a lot of hard work into the features for BaseCamp 3.2, we hope you'll enjoy it.
  • That is a nice change list, I specially like numbers 5, 10 and 17. I will take a look at the Beta. Thanks
  • I am very pleased that #9 is happening. :)

Maybe now I can get rid of my Polar HRM and get a Garmin strap to use with my Oregon.
  • Doesn't work. Drops your GPS registration after downloading one tile. Others on other forums have had the same problem. After one tile BaseCamp v3.2 tells you your unit, that just downloaded a tile, no longer has a BirdsEye subscription. Back to 3.1.3

This helps a lot with routing on devices. Some devices are better at routing using tracks. For example, if you select the 'follow track' option to route along a path which has 100s of trackpoints, the device won't beep/notify/annoy you when you pass by each of those points. If you used routes instead, the device will let you know every time you pass by a route waypoint.

That is a tremendous change list which addresses most of the feature requests that have come up on this forum!

    Thank you, BaseCamp team!

I got the message that I had no subscription right on the start, could only download a demo tile.
Glad that the beta version left version 3.1.3 on my computer.

When I convert a route to a track I can not sent this track to the sd card, only to the gps itself.

    Well just used it shortly.

    Some bug I discovered:
    1. Asymetric lines still broken see https://forums.garmin.com/showpost.php?p=82540&postcount=2

    Remarks:
    2. The routing quality does not really seem to have improved. Especially faster time is a joke when used together with bicycle.

One route 2h32min on shorter distance with 60km. clicking on faster time, this makes it 4h50min and 130km. There is no way this can be faster time in any way. Lots of other tries, faster time and bicycle simply unusable. (map --> openmtbmap.org alps map).

Changing the road selection slider only one step to highways, has far too drastic consequences. Especially on bicycle mode.
In fact, moving the slider to either direction from center, creates horrible routing results. That was much much better before.

In general the activity based profiles are great however (if the routing itself hadn't been changed as drastic.

    3. On the properties tab, there should not only be the leg length, but also accumulated length from start for each leg.

    4. Converting routes to tracks is great. But why is there no option to create a real route for autorouting (not direct route) from a track?

    5. Swap map and data view: Great, finally sceen can be used efficiently like in Mapsource... This was long overdue.

    6. For maps that have no DEM, but contourlines, it would be great to also have an altitude profile for tracks created in Basecamp (use real altitude profile if track is from GPS) like the altitude profile that is shown for filtered routes.

    7. The additional statistics on the altitude profile are great. Except the last one. "Grade" between start and finish is not really something needed. Average grade would be a more useful measure. Also average incline of the way when clicking into the profile were great (so on a steep ascent you could click bottom and top point, and get the averaged incline for the ascent). Even better would be two measures. Average incline on uphill, and average incline on downhill sections.

Overall except for the autorouting a great step forward in my opinion.
  • Hello Basecamp team
thanks a lot for this update with a lot of very useful features.
    Some errors I have found:
    - View, Data filter - only the first option is active, others are greyed
    - after update I lost my data on every run - at the beggining there was message that data list is corrupt and question if I want to fix it - result was no data at all. I found that in one of my lists I had Czech letters - maybe it was reason for this behaviour. Finally I exported all my lists from BC 3.1 to .gdb format and then imported it ( without Czech letters). After that BC 3.2 is stable
    - New route, one point, another point, click to "Pan tool", rename the new route - mouse pointer is "hand" but there is also line from pointer to the last point of the route

If there is still possibility to add fetures:
    - manipulation of list - at least the possibility to manually sort the lists
    - possibility to combine route and track during planning

    Regards
    Ivan

Lots of new features here that benefit various user communities and that's great. I actually like the Swap Map and Data Views feature.

But, it seems as though BC-Win and BC-Mac are growing with different feature priorities. I was really hoping to see with this beta that both BC's were going to use the same GDB file format with Folders, Smart Lists and Smart Folders so that both BC's could share the same AllData.dgb and FolderData.gfi files.

Is there ever going to be a convergence of the UI (major operations) and features for the two OS's?
