Unable to launch BaseCamp

I recently installed BaseCamp on my Windows PC and it worked the first few times I used it. But now it does not. When I start the program I get the outline of the BaseCamp window and after a bit it says in the title bar [Not Responding] and I have to go to Windows XP task manager and kill the program. I have un-installed the software and rebooted and then re-installed it twice and that does not solve the issue. I'm guessing that when I un-install the software that it is leaving some corrupted files somewhere that I need to manually delete before re-installing, but I'm not sure where. (Just a guess) I can use MapSource just fine, but I can't download any of my BirdsEye imagery that I paid a subscription for.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Try backing up the below paths and then deleting them before launching BaseCamp.

    C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\GARMIN\BaseCamp
    C:\Documents and Settings\<UseName>\Local Settings\Temp\BaseCamp

    Jumping on

I am having the same issue (BaseCamp 3.0.6) on a small netbook. If I do what NeoLite suggests above, then it does start fine, however it loses all the tracks etc. that I had. I tried organizing all the tracks, waypoints, etc. on a beefier machine, did a backup from BaseCamp (no BirdsEye data). After removing the directories that NeoLite suggests, start up BaseCamp, then do a restore, I can work with the data. However, once I have restored the data, and shut down, the next time it I try, it won't start up. Is this a resource issue? The netbook I am trying this on has Atom Z520 (1.3Ghz), 1GB Ram, 32GB SSD, GMA500 Graphics. Anything I can do to get this to consistently start without removing all the data first?

  • I have the same problem. If I delete the two folders given above, things are fine but I have no maps. If I restore, then I have the same issues. I can't backup from within the program as it doesn't launch so I have to cut and paste. I guess I will have to paste things one at a time and see what exactly is causing the problem. Very frustrating as I do have quite a bit of imagery.

  • Thanks Neolite, I did do that and did get a reply from your colleagues. Essentially, it was the Birdseye imagery that was causing the problem and, apparently, the just released version of Basecamp has solved this issue.

    Thanks for your interest.
