Show all tracks?

Howdy, new 62s user and having trouble with differences between 60csx and namely basecamp handling of tracks

I have a large volume of tracks (900+) from a BWCA portage database. each time i go to the BWCA, upload all nearby portages (as tracks) and campsites (as waypoints).

On the 60csx i'd upload the max 20 tracks, and all would neatly display on the map, no need to 'show on map' or anything else.

On the 62s i can upload the max 200 tracks using basecamp, but they are all hidden by default, and i see no way to enable them all in basecamp or otherwise..

also, if i select multiple tracks in basecamp, i cant modify their color, or any other global setting, as a group..

I guess what im getting at is a feature in basecamp to edit/modify general settings for a large number of tracks, including Color and visibility (the ability to specify 'hide on map' or 'show on map'" from within basecamp.

Otherwise we'd need the 62s firmware folks to add a 'show all' in the track manager which doesnt seem likey since im reading oregon users have the same issue.

comments or suggested workarounds for showing all tracks on the map would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Agreed. Tracks defaulting off is a problem on the Oregon and Dakota, as well. In messages exchanged with a developer here, I've been told it's a firmware, not a Basecamp, issue.

Agreed, I have just bought a Dakato 20 ( my fourth Garmin GPS ) and am very happy with many features in particular the 200 track capacity but also find it frustrating not being able to show all tracks by default or by a global command.
I have hundreds of tracks of my mountain climbs and would really like that feature. Any work around or do we have to wait for Garmin to do something.
All my previous units did not have this short coming.
Otherwise a great unit, love the touch screen and have no problem with it in direct sunlight.

I can confirm that the device is the limiting factor on which tracks appear on the unit. BaseCamp doesn't send any flag for visibility on the track itself.

Bulk editing of tracks (and other data) is a feature we are working on to include in an upcoming version of BaseCamp.

    Thanks, thats good news
  • Whats an effective way of getting through to the firmware folks?

sad to say, but calling/emailing tech support directly doesn't guarantee a feature request gets any attention.

any other avenues worth looking at?

    thanks

It's disappointing to see that, with updates to both BaseCamp and the device firmware, nothing seems to have been done to fix this issue.

I display tracks on a GPSmap 62s to maintain a map of hiking trails in the area where I live. I'm often running into the 200 track limit. I swap tracks in and out in order to live within the limit. Having the track disappear from the map every time I add or edit it is a major inconvenience. The list of tracks in the 62s track manager doesn't seem to be in any particular order and doesn't give any indication of whether the track is currently shown on the map. Going through 200 tracks, one at a time, and selecting each one to view/change its "Show on map" status is tedious and frustrating.

To add insult to injury, the firmware update once again made all the tracks invisible.

What possible reason is there to provide an easy way to upload and edit tracks and then always make them invisible?

I realize that this is partly a device firmware issue, but providing a way for BaseCamp to show and change the visibility of tracks or groups of tracks would make the program a lot more useful. A simple "Show all tracks" function would be a good start. A Garmin forum where customers could discuss device-related issues would be good too.

I agree. This is phenomenal pain in the ass. PLEASE, firmware guys! We need an upgrade. Either a "Show All Tracks" option, or "Show All Tracks" as the default. I regularly upload multiple tracks daily to a half dozen GPS units every day for our field biologists. No problem with our 60's and 76's. The new 62's are so incredibly "user hostile" our guys are ready to throw them in the river!
What can be done to fix this, and when?

I have the same problem. I plan hundreds of tracks on Google Earth and then import them into Basecamp. Then after I copy them to the unit I have to select "show track" on each track, one by one, this is stupid. I remember that the early versions of Mapsource allowed to change this flag, but not Basecamp, ¿why?.

For this kind of purpose it's better to create a real map of those tracks. That way you can have a lot more tracks on your device; all visible at the same time.
