Basecamp Find Options

In Find, Find Options, Points of Interest, Lodging the only subcategory I have is Campground / RV Park. I need to find Motels. I'm using the City Navigator North America NT 2023.1 map. What am I doing wrong? Is there something in the settings that I have turned off?

Thanks for any help

Charlie

  • That could be a problem with the ProductDataCache or a faulty install of the map.  You can try deleting the cache as mentioned in an post above by SUSAMB.  If that doesn't help, try downloading the map again.

You can also try narrowing your search.  Instead of all points of interest, choose a specific category.  If that doesn't work, narrow it further by choosing a specific sub-category.

Another trick is to choose another category, refresh then go back to the original category or All Points of Interest and refresh/find more items.  You can also try closing the search results and searching again

Seeing more numbered blue ballons in the map window and much fewer items listed in the search box is not that unusual even in older map versions.  I have no idea what causes this happen.  (I'm using version 4.6.2 of BaseCamp; perhaps it has improved or become more of an issue in later versions).

  • I can confirm that when you are missing search categories you need to rebuild the ProductDataCache.  I have had to do it four times in three years.

I doesn't sound like there is a solution to the blue balloon vs list issue other than to try and try and try again.  As for version, I am using 4.7.5.  I don't recall if I started with 4.7.3 or 4.7.4.  Either way, the problem has always existed for me.

  • I'm not seeing that. Mine always match and the list is fully populated. Which map are you searching?  Can you say where the map is centred and what you enter in the search box, I'll try to replicate the issue

I am using CN NA NT 2024.1.  In the test I mentioned earlier I had the map centered on Waynesboro PA with a displayed map area of approx 2 square miles.  My search is for "Food and Drink" > All Categories.  In the test I did just now, there are 19 visible balloons and 50 places listed.  This is different from the same search done yesterday when only a few places were listed but is consistent with the inconsistent behavior that I experience.

  • With map 2024.1 and ver. 4.6.2, a search for "waynesboro" gets me to Waynesboro centered on the map at a scale of 0.2 mi.  Searching for "Food and Drink"> All Categories gave me a few different results.  I did have an issue with with "waynesboro" popping back up in the search window even though it was deleted before limiting the search to Food and Drink.

I had 24 ballons on the map.  I did multiple sequences of searching that gave 47 / 113 / 166 listed places in a 3 / 8.3/ 9.8 mile radius.  There was always a lag with the 113 / 166 results.  By that I mean the initial 47 or so results would return and I would start to move the slider then the final number would load.

I tried closing/reopening the search results (empty search window); clicking either the More (Points of Interest line) or Open More Options (cog on the the Top Results line) to get to the "Food and Drink" search.  I never tried more than two clicks on the three dots to bring up more items.

Like I wrote, I've always found the search function to be somewhat quirky.

  • I tried that and it worked as I expected, got 5 places in the list at first then 50 plus when I tapped on the 3 dots. Note it will vary somewhat depending on exactly where the centre of the map is and also how much of the map is showing. I've never found that an issue.
