transfer maps from device to basecamp

Hi Guys,

I have just purchase new maps and downloaded them to my device...all good. I now want to transfer these maps to my windows PC so I can work on routes with out my device plugged in.

I have looked at some online tutorials and only found ones that say to click on "Map Options" on your connected device in express. I don't have this option with my device in Express.

I am using windows 10 with Garmin express version 7.1.4.0 my device is a BMW Motarrd Navigator V

Can you please help me

Cheers Brett

  • Hello Sussamb,

I went and bought an external drive.

I copied the IMG files from my watch to it into the \Garmin directory.

The JavaWa device manager recognizes the maps as shown in the following 2 screen pictures:

Then, I exit JavaWa and run Basecamp.

Basecamp recognizes the maps on the external drive, as seen on the following picture:

Then, I try to select from Maps in Basecamp, a map from the external drive:

For example, I choose TopoActive Americas, North 2020.20, and I get the following error:

I used the JavaWa  to verify for corrupted files and all are ok.

    I am stuck again.

So far, I have not used JavaWa for anything other than verifying the info, am I doing something wrong?

    Any further ideas ?

    Thank you !

  • Looking at the list of maps in JaVaWa a number of them aren't showing as being visible in BaseCamp. Use JaVaWa device manager so they are all set to show and see if that helps.

  • Thanks for your help.

It is too complicated for me, I will look for another easier alternative and post it here if I find it for other users to use.

  • You could try downloading the simpler tool JaVaWa IMGname, open the program then drag each .img file onto it in turn and make them visible in BaseCamp.

  • Well this is an old post but maybe it will help anyone who passes by. SO this worked for me with my Zumo 660 many years ago and now my recently purchased NOS (and discontinued) 396 LMT-S. Anyway, I connect my Zumo to my pc via USB cable. Then launch Garmin Express. In here you should add/connect/register your Zumo to the Express app and check for any updates. Quit this and Then fire up B-camp. The first time B-camp launches with the "new" Zumo, it will actually download the map from the Zumo TO your pc without you noticing it unless you watch the list window on the left of B camp screen. This will take some time to get that map from the Zumo to your PC. After the green line finishes, in Bcamp you can click on "Maps" and then "Manage map products" In here you will see all maps installed on your PC. They will have a path like C:Program data/Garmin/ blah blah blah. That's proof right there that the map is now on your pc. SO, quit Bcamp and disconnect your Garmin. Now lauch Garmin Express again. In here look for your Garmin model, click it and then on the next screen look for Map Details, probably in blue letters. Click that and then click Map Options. Now youll see Install to Computer. Click and let it do the process. I hope this all works for you as it did for me.

  • Afraid this is nonsense. You can't install your map from your device to BaseCamp, what BaseCamp does is index the map on your device for first use, and it can only access it with your device connected. You get the map on your PC for BaseCamp to use by using Express as described, that way your device doesn't need to be connected to view the map as it's installed to your PC.
