Hi Guys,

I have just purchase new maps and downloaded them to my device...all good. I now want to transfer these maps to my windows PC so I can work on routes with out my device plugged in.

I have looked at some online tutorials and only found ones that say to click on "Map Options" on your connected device in express. I don't have this option with my device in Express.

I am using windows 10 with Garmin express version 7.1.4.0 my device is a BMW Motarrd Navigator V

Can you please help me

Cheers Brett

  • What maps did you purchase?  If an online download those maps cannot be installed to your PC.

Mod note: You posted in the Mac forum, as you mention PC I'm going to move the thread to the PC section

  • Hello

I want t do the same, transfer the maps from my device to my pc s I can work on routes without my device plugged in (I hope it will be faster as well to work from my hard drive).

I did not buy any maps separately.

I want to use the map that came with my Fenix 6, which are TopoActive America, North 2020.10 and Coverage of North and South America 6.3 (among other maps of the rest of the world that I will not use).

Is it possible ?, if not, could you guide me towards another solution ?

Working from my device seems to be slow and limited.

    Thank you !

  • Run Express, select your device and look at map options, is there an option there to install the maps to your PC?  If not report back here for additional help.

  • Hello Sussamb

    Thanks for your answer.

There is no option to install the maps to my PC (When I connect my device I can see all the maps of my device in Express).

Help will be much appreciated !

    Best rergards !

  • I don't have your device, but you should be able to copy the map files to a removeable drive, either a physical one like a memory stick, or a virtual one. Place the map files in a folder named Garmin and BaseCamp will read the maps from there.  This may help www.javawa.nl/virtualdevice.html

  • Thank you very much !

I copied the files to a memory stick (using windows normal copying procedure for files), I got that far.

I used the javawa device manager to try to install the maps from the memory stick to my computer.

So far, I had no success (but still trying since I need to understand if I am doing it right, it is not easy for me).

I will let you know my results.

    Thanks again !

  • No, you don't then copy the maps to your PC unless you're creating a virtual drive. You simply let BaseCamp read the maps from the memory stick.

  • oops, I was doing it wrong all night without success.

Will change the approach and let you know, thanks again !!!

  • Hi Again,

1- I got the virtual drive working (with a FAT32 system), and mapped it as the G: drive.

    2- I created within the G:\Garmin directory

3- I copied all IMG files from my device (Phoenix 6) to G:\Garmin

4- I disconnect my device from the computer.

5- If I launch JavaWa, it finds and scans the virtual drive, and finds the maps on the virtual drive ok, as shown:

6- If I launch Basecamp, it does not see the copied maps (and I dont know how to indicate to it to look for it on the virtual drive).

    I believe I am missing a step between 5 and 6.

I have tried the options available in JavaWa but I cannot figure it out.

    Any hints ?

    Thanks.

  • Two possibilities. BaseCamp can only see removeable drives, so did you create a removeable virtual drive? Also some maps aren't set to show in BaseCamp initially but JaVaWa device manager can set them to show in BaseCamp
