Via Point Arrival and Departure times are sometimes the same and sometimes different

Hi there,

I have an issue with the Arrival and Departure times for via points when included as part of a route. This maybe an understanding issue on my part so any explanation would be appreciated.

I’m using Basecamp 4.6.2 on Windows 10.

I’ve created a trip with Trip Planner covering 9 days. Each day is a separate hub and each hub has one route in it with many waypoints and shaping points.

The issue I have is that when I open the Route Properties window and then the “Edit Via Point” dialog box sometimes the via point has the same Arrival and Departure time and sometimes they are different. In both cases the Arrival and Departure checkboxes are unchecked and the Layover Time is 00:00.

It happens to both waypoints and shaping points. See the images below for some examples.

I've Recalculated the route a number of times, but this does not fix the issue.

This means that the elapsed time for the route is incorrect.

Can anyone explain what is happening?

I don't use trip planner, but I'll give you something to try. When you open up a waypoint or via point with on unwanted delay, try clicking on the departure box and then select the layover time set at 0:00. and click OK. You may have to click recalculate.

If this works, in the future try correcting the first shaping or added waypoint after a point with a layover before continuing with the shaping to see if that prevents adding a delayed departure to subsequent points.

BTLAAKE, thanks for the information. I don't think it's a trip planner issue as I created most of the routes manually after creating the trip by clicking on the Trip Planner in the Tool bar.

Manually setting the layover time to 0:00 has worked.

I will try your suggestion for future routes I create.

I'd still love to know what's happening in the background. It certainly appears to be a software error, but as I said originally it may be just an understanding issue on my part.

My thoughts are that it is a software issue. I took a brief look at Trip Planner before addressing your query and could not see a way to shape a route within Trip Planner.

I'm guessing that when you shape a route outside of Trip Planner the layover for a point in Trip Planner is being incorporated into shaping points that are added immediately after it. My hope is that if you correct the first shaping point after a Trip Planner point with a layover that additional shaping points will also show the correction.
