Basecamp update?

I thought the update was supposed to be released yesterday. When will it be released?
  • ...an older version of Google Earth...

    Blame Google.

Keeping a feature that only happens to work for an older version of Earth is likely to keep generating support calls.

  • I'm sticking with 4.6.2 ... I too use the link to GE frequently so will pass on 4.7 :)
  • Well I have used Basecamp from the beginning and have really enjoyed using it. I like the Data base method being used. I travel fulltime in my Diesel pickup and 38ft 5th wheel trailer.

I use Google Earth to pin point the location of every campground that I plan to go to before leaving so I have no problem with my trailer. I have even installed an older version of Google Earth which has been working with no problem. Basecamp can locate the waypoint if I have google earth launched. It looks like now I can't even use Basecamp to locate the entry points to campgrounds with this new version. I wish that this had been left in Basecamp for those of us that have no problem using an older version of Google Earth. Unless I can figure out a way to locate the campgrounds exact location I will have to reinstall Basecamp 4.6.2.

I really like Basecamp. I wish this change had not been made. I have no Idea how to export my location to KLM 2.2. This is not a great workaround for me..

    Thank you for your time.

    Bobcat,
I have used BaseCamp the same as you for verifying campground locations. I just updated to 4.7 and see the Google Earth link gone. VERY SAD. What you now have to do, is with your route that contains the campground waypoints highlight, Go to File >Export >"List name for highlight route" and then when file explorer appears change the file type to KLM 2.2. Then you need to go to the File location you saved it in and open in Google Earth or double click on the file, NOT SIMPLE

I got the notice that an update was waiting from 4.62 to 4.7, it will not install. I've tried rebooting, uninstalling 4.62, and manually installing 4.7. From what I can see, they've just removed a bunch of features anyway.

Here's the log file contents showing the error for the sw team:

  • Another long time user that will stick with 4.6.2. Using Google Maps to verify routes and waypoints has become an integral part of my trip planning process. To give it up, for no additional benefit, nope not me.

Garmin has entered into the terrritory again as they were before they brought out the nuvi 3597, that their future is doubt, or I should say my future is in doubt whether they will have products that support the type of route planning I regularly use, especially for long trips.
  • Bobcat,
I have used BaseCamp the same as you for verifying campground locations.

I found a way to locate the place I am going.. I am an admin to RV Park Reviews. They have the lat & Long. of each park and are pretty accurate. I get the address and the Lat & Long. Copy it to a notepad. Take the lat & Long and place it into Google Earth. Then I look to see if it is where the entrance is to the park and adjust it by placing a new place mark (yellow pin at the top left). That gives me the exact location of the park entrance. I make a waypoint in Basecamp and place the lat & Long in the position field. Then add the address and phone number. Place it in my State List.

I will try to check out the KLM 2.2. I appreciate the heads up on the process. But this way seems simpler. Let me know if you try it.

Something I am seeing in my routing in Basecamp. The route shows off the map route. Does that present a problem?. I haven't used the routing with the 4.7 Basecamp yet.

I'm going to upload a clip of my Basecamp to show what I mean and see if anyone else has the same thought.

By the way. I like Basecamp. I learned to use it and can about always find a work around for most things. I was Deskside support for a Texas Electric company. Retired after 38 years. about 15 at Deskside. Built computers starting with TI 994a. Programed in DOS always up to Windows NT. Took all the courses for MCSE.. Never took the test tho. I'm bad with tests..

  • Google Garmin Perry site

I looked at the Perry site, but I cannot find Basecamp there. Can anyone provide a link to somewhere that still had 4.6.2? I searched for quite a while but all the sites I found that said they had it really only pointed to the Garmin site and it's gone now.

Update: I was able to restore 4.6.2 from a backup. Whew! GE is back in the view menu, and it works again!
  • Watch Out - maps in .img format cannot be sent with the MapInstall belonging to 4.7.0 anymore. Maps in .gmap format send fine. Please report if you find any .img map that sends correctly (not only a cutout of the overview map) or any gmap map that is not send anymore.

I'm happily running 4.6.2, but it apparently downloaded the 4.7.0 update is now nagging me to install the update. Is there any way to stop the nagging, and even better, stop the automatic download?
