BaseCamp bashing and what do you find difficult

I used to be a BaseCamp basher but once I figured out how BaseCamp was organized I like it. A couple of years ago I deleted all my other mapping programs and use BaseCamp exclusively and as yet haven't missed much.

I would like to hear exactly what others find its shortcomings are and what operations they find difficult. Maybe we can create a list to pass on to Garmin if they ever start working on BaceCamp again. Try to be specific and not too wordy.

    - Make it easier to select BirdsEye areas. Allow a large area to be divided up into smaller, evenly sized areas that have edges touching.
    - As there is no point selecting the ocean on a coastal area the selection has to be hand drawn with the mouse and it's not until the area is completed do you know if you are within the download limit for the chosen resolution. If even 1MB over the area has to be drawn again. It would be handy to be able to adjust the area already drawn without having to start again.
    - Tell us before hand if there is any additional resolution available at Highest. For example, Highest at the Ross Sea, Antarctica is a waste of space as there is no gain in resolution.
  • Maintaining Icons...

Waypoint Icons in Basecamp is limited. I travel fulltime in an RV and use RV760. I understand from previous post that deleting waypoints and trips on the 760 is not available.

I use the icons for waypoints in Basecamp to keep a separation of the type of waypoints I make. As I travel I may make a waypoint for something specific and move it to base camp. Many of my waypoints are in groups and to keep my working waypoints accurate I delete the waypoints in a specific list, ie. "Daughter's Home" and copy the waypoints to that list. All of the waypoints icons are green hearts and such. I have to go back and change the icons from plain green to RV, House, Restaurant, and such.

  • Basecamp discontinued

If Garmin cared, they could review the 10,000 posts for various deficiencies and bugs already clearly defined in this forum.
But since its been discontinued whats the point.
  • Better interface for geotagging photos. The thumbnails are so small they are almost useless (I now separate the images I want to geotag to a separate folder so I don't have to "edit" in Basecamp. Add select all/select none/invert selection check boxes for selecting images. Better handling of duplicate image file names. Instead of appending the file name (-1, -a, etc.) it assigns a name that provides no "connection" to the original image. I can never remember which way to go (+ or -) on time offsets due to time zone changes so, a little better guidance there would be nice.
