Basecamp cannot find addresses

This is my first attempt to use Basecamp after purchasing a Zumo 665LM for my bike, so please forgive my unfamiliarity with the product. I was attempting to plan a route to be transferred to my device, but Basecamp seems to be having a great deal of difficulty with existing addresses. The place I want to go is the Speakeasy Art Center at 353 Court St, Pekin, IL 61554. Basecamp does not recognize this as a good address. Google maps has no problem finding it. I then looked on the map in Basecamp for a nearby address to navigate to. The Tazewell County Circuit Clerk's office pops up as a POI at 346 Court St. I tried clicking on the button to add that address to the itinerary, but absolutely nothing happens. Then I tried manually adding the address listed right on the map from Basecamp to the destination box, and that address also is not recognized. What's going on here? This program seems very buggy....
  • Good to know Basecamp works with the downloaded map, seems it is an issue with Basecamp accessing the map from your Zumo, though it works perfectly well with my nuvis map.

If the map is already installed to your device Express won't offer both options, but on the next update there will be an option to update both the device and your PC.
  • If you can't download the map or access the support page then I suspect you may have an issue with your system or ISP. Never had an issue downloading maps and I can access the support page. Have you tried a different browser?

MapSource should you wish to use it is still available but as I've already pointed out the issue only seems to affect certain routes and many folks report no issues using BaseCamp despite the warning given in that FAQ. If you want more advice on a 665 with Basecamp there is a Zumo forum here www.zumoforums.com

First, I want to thank you for all your help and support.

Second, I just discovered that there are two Garmin support pages, both accessed directly from their main page. I was going to the bottom, clicking on the "Contact Us" link and then the "Call or Email Support" link. I got this:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0By7GvFiqkMW_Z1hkQWV0T21FUDg/view

(Had to post a link to it uploaded as this forum will no longer allow me to upload images)

The other link, which is at the top and labeled "Support", works. So, it's not my ISP or my computer, it's Garmin's problem having 2 different support contact pages, and one of them is broken.
  • Good to know you're pretty much sorted now, I'll close this thread as the topic is resolved. Feel free to raise any other issues you encounter.

Here's a work-around solution to Basecamp waypoint searches. If you, like I, have had problems with computer searches, here's a bulletproof solution:

    1. Have Basecamp open and running with your GPS connected.

    2. Start Mapquest.

    3. In Mapquest, look up whatever address, etc. you want to find. It will pop up with an icon.

    4. Follow these steps exactly:

    5. RIGHT click the icon.

    6. LEFT click "What's here?"

    7. At the bottom of the page, you'll see some GPS coordinates. LEFT click those coordinates.

    8. Over on the left you'll see those coordinates. COPY the set of coordinates that look like this:

    45.050450, -93.457831

    9. Switch over to Basecamp.

    10. At the top of the page, LEFT click "Find."

    11. At the bottom of those choices, LEFT click "Locate Coordinates."

    12. PASTE the coordinates you got from Mapquest into Basecamp.

    13. Click "Recenter."

    14. Click "Create Waypoint."

It's unfortunate that Basecamp is so often incapable of working well, but this works. Actually, it's only a few more steps, but I chose to make this procedure as clear as possible.

    Hope it helps.
