Basecamp cannot find addresses

This is my first attempt to use Basecamp after purchasing a Zumo 665LM for my bike, so please forgive my unfamiliarity with the product. I was attempting to plan a route to be transferred to my device, but Basecamp seems to be having a great deal of difficulty with existing addresses. The place I want to go is the Speakeasy Art Center at 353 Court St, Pekin, IL 61554. Basecamp does not recognize this as a good address. Google maps has no problem finding it. I then looked on the map in Basecamp for a nearby address to navigate to. The Tazewell County Circuit Clerk's office pops up as a POI at 346 Court St. I tried clicking on the button to add that address to the itinerary, but absolutely nothing happens. Then I tried manually adding the address listed right on the map from Basecamp to the destination box, and that address also is not recognized. What's going on here? This program seems very buggy....
  • OK, now that I have 353 Court St, Pekin, IL 61554 entered as a waypoint, Trip Planner finds it (it is listed as a waypoint in the drop down box as I type the address into the destination for the trip). HOWEVER, even though this is a valid address and can be found within BC by using the Find/Find Addresses function, if I delete that address as a waypoint, Trip Planner can no longer find it.

This is not a problem of Trip Planner only being able to use waypoints as starting points and destinations. Trip Planner has no problem finding my address, my sister's address, my parents address, etc.... How again then is this my fault for not using the program correctly, when it appears to be a completely random chance that Trip Planner is able to locate valid addresses? (Trip Planner also failed to recognize the Tazewell Circuit Clerk's Office, which is listed as a POI right on the map next to 353 Court St).

    Circuit Clerk's Office
    346 Court St
    Pekin, IL 61554

    Also failed to recognize:

    Courtyard Cafe
    17 S Capitol St
    Pekin, IL 61554

The Courtyard Cafe is listed in the BC map. I entered the address exactly as given by the BC map, and as you can see it is not listed in the drop down box. If I click on "Start Trip", the Destination box is cleared and I get an error telling me to enter a destination. If I put my parents or sister's address in that same box, it finds it no problem and creates the route when I click on Start Trip. Tell me how I am doing something wrong here and this is not a bug in BC?

I have a screen shot as proof of this, but for some reason the forum is not allowing me to upload it.
  • Well as I've posted now a couple of times I'm having no issue doing what you say you can't. I've now tried the addresses you've just posted and BaseCamp finds them without issue.

Which NA map version are you using? What Basecamp version? What Windows version? Do you keep Windows up to date? Something is either wrong with your system or you're doing something wrong as everything you say doesn't work does for me :)

I have a Dell Latitude XPS 17 computer, one of their flagship models. Intel Core i7-2720QM CPU. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit OS. 8 GB RAM. Everything is up to date and no other programs are having any issue. It is not my computer.

I tried to upload a screen shot showing the same thing you did, but my BC fails to find the addresses. The forum here isn't allowing me to upload it, even though I've done the exact same thing and uploaded other screen shots in this same thread.

    BC version 4.6.2
Map is City Navigator North America NT 2017.1 v20.10
  • Maybe I should just completely uninstall BC and then reinstall it? Clearly it is not functioning correctly.
  • Same BC and map version as me. Yes, I was going to suggest an uninstall and reinstall. Certainly worth a try.

Unfortunately, the internet just went out at my house, so I have to post this from my phone. The uninstall and reinstall will have to wait till later. Could it be that BC is having issues with the zumo? I've read elsewhere that Garmin has not been able to sort out all the issues between BC and the zumo navigators. Being their flagship device, that is a serious issue if true.
  • Well the Zumo 665 is hardly a flag ship device, but it is true that there can be an issue with routes sent from Basecamp to some Zumo models, including the 665. Having said that many folks in the Zumo forums say it works.

However as a discontinued model it's unlikely anything will change so it is what it is. The current Zumos (390, 590) aren't known to have any problems. There is detail on this here (see Note 2 at the bottom)

    https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7B65814150-50b3-11dc-4ec8-000000000000%7D

However none of that should impact on the way BaseCamp is working.
  • It was the top offering for motorcycle navigators until just recently. I'd consider it a flagship device for that reason. The replacement model is nearly $1K, and not even widely available yet (was listed but not yet available when I bought the 665 last week on Amazon). The 665 had dropped in price because it was listed as discontinued, and honestly if that had not happened I wouldn't have bought it yet. Still, given the $500 I paid for it, I expect it to work better than this. The 665 has no problem finding any valid address that I type into it, and because BC is getting its detailed map directly from the 665, I would expect that it would not have a problem either, but here I am....
  • Well I wouldn't make that leap, the issue is with some routes sent to the device, not with BaseCamp. However it will be worth, as Breezely pointed out earlier, using Express to install the map to your PC. At least that would then eliminate any possible BaseCamp/Zumo issue when searching for addresses.
  • Still trying to figure out how to do that, and once I do, do map updates automatically sync when updated on the 665?
