No topo lines on my 24K maps?

Hello Basecamp gurus. This is my first post. I did a search or two on the forum but came up empty. With my GPSmap 62st attached to my Mac, I can see both the 100k topomaps that came on my unit, and the 24k maps on the micro SD chip I bought and installed. When viewing the 24k maps, at all zoom levels, I just see rivers and roads, but no topo information. Just a grid over a sea of yellow. What am I doing wrong?

Has anyone developed a comprehensive user guide for this software?

Thanks.

Can anyone still please tell me

    1. If 100k topo maps are fairly bare bones, like contour lines, streams and bodies of water and
2 Why my 100k topo maps are loading .2 mi off on BC?

    3. When I look at the 62stc on the corresponding page at garmin.com, it shows the lush green highly detailed map on the screen. I don't even get that when I go to highest detail.
  • Are you able to post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

As for being .2 miles off, what makes you think they are?

It really sounds like you have the basic map selected and not the topo map, but without seeing what you're seeing I can't confirm that.
  • The photo you provided over on the Windows side of this discussion looks like a sales/marketing image for the device. Probably like printed TV set ads it should include "Simulated Picture"!
My 64s, and prior to that the 62s, appears pretty much like your sample on this thread. I don't have the 100k, just the Garmin 24k topo for the western us. I use it with detail set to highest. Even setting Shaded Relief to Show if Available won't produce the appearance you are hoping for.

The problem seems to have resolved. At least, the next time I connected the Garmin to my Mac, it "downloaded" the topo maps to the hard drive for ten minutes. Then the contours appeared. Hope this is a one-time thing.

Still poking around and trying to learn the package. One annoying thing is, after several minutes of inactivity, the GPS closes the USB connection and osX (Bandersnatch, or whatever the one after Mavericks is called.) complains that I improperly removed the "drives". I'm usually pretty good with applications. But I think I might struggle with Basecamp for a while.

    Thanks for the posts!
  • As I suspected you were seeing the basemap then. You hadn't given Basecamp enough time to index the map on your device so hadn't been able to select the correct map.
