BaseCamp Mac versus Windows

Currently working on my next vacation, I prepare Routes and Tracks (hiking and biking).
My problem: On windows using drawing tools, when I reach the edge of the map windows, BC shows a large arrow and the map move to let draw outside of the current windows. On the Mac, when I reach the limit of the map windows, nothing, I have to take the hand moving tool, move the map, select the drawing tool again, but I cannot resume previous track segment, I have to start another one... later I can join them but it's poor design. Let me know what I am missing BC Mac cannot be that poor.
On top of that I experiences crashes several time a day, with no major data losses. If I report problems thru dialog window, can I expect a feedback?

Terror! Now it does not work even with version 4.1.2
  • I have that problem with my notebook running Win7, though it works fine on my desktop, also running Win7.

I got around it by dragging/dropping the data onto a USB stick ... maybe that would work for you?

    Hello SUSSAMB.

I mean that I can no longer save files of type <BaseCamp_140304.Backup> to make a data recovery. But I saw right now that I can define a file <BaseCamp_140304.bclibrary> to do version backup with Time Machine. I hope this solves everything. What do you think about?
  • Maxett,

Something is wrong with your setup. I can do backups from within BC with no problem, running Mac OS 10.9.2. Do you get an error message?

But if you want to backup your data before you find that problem and fix it, you can simply copy your ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin folder onto another disk. This folder is hidden in Mavericks, so use the Finder Go --> Go to Folder command and type in the path, including the ~. This type of backup will also do what the BC backup does not: save a copy of your maps.

    Hi Dan,

the functions menu file/backup... & file/restore have always properly worked until the upgrad to 4.2.4 and now no longer work even with an old installation 4.1 => General Error window.

Anyway, I've just found out that the ability to export the library in a known path on the disk from the panel preferences/advanced/library allows me to backup the entire data structure (images, paths, routes, WP, folders and adventures) in a single file *.bclibary type. Given the inability to use file *.backup type, each restore of a single data that has been deleted from the master library can be made from Time Machine by the temporary recovery of the old library.

About the User/Library/Application Support/Garmin folder (visible by the View Options panel), I tried to move it to see the effects. BC opens the last used library file and regenerates the garmin folder. I then restored the original folder in its path and the maps were available again, although I had to unlock them online.

I have not sure if the the maps are also stored into the *.bclibrary files. If so, it would not be necessary to access the folder User / Library / Application Support / Garmin.

    Thanks Dan

Maps are not stored in the .bclibrary container.
