Editing entries in BaseCamp causes duplication on device

I'm using a nuvi 50 with BaseCamp v3.x. When I import locations and edit their labels, then send back to my device, the edited locations are added to the old locations, so I get duplicates such as location, location1 etc.

Is there any way to do roundtrip editing via BaseCamp without the duplication issue - ie proper syncing?

thanks

    checking is easy.

Delete all of your favorites and routes from your unit.

    connect it to your computer.

    delete current.gpx and temp.gpx

make sure you empty the trash.

    boot up your unit.

go through the process to import user data, there will be no user data to import.

and yep you have to delete favorites using the interface on the device, can't be done using a computer.
  • Well that doesn't prove it one way or the other, if you've deleted all the favorites in the first place and then all your gpx files they'll be nothing to import :)

It doesn't explain if current.gpx is recreated on reboot from what's in the nuvi memory, or when you connect it to your PC, or both. This thread http://forums.gpsreview.net/viewtopic.php?t=23660 and others on other forums appear to suggest current.gpx is recreated on boot up.

But it really doesn't matter. The point is, as we agree, that you can't delete your favorites by deleting current.gpx
  • Somehow I created a new category in favorites while using BC. The category title is the date and time and is listed between all favorites and address book.
How do I delete this category?

This drove me nuts just last month; no manner of deleting the folder would kill it completely. It only showed up when my 62st was connected, so figured it had to be on the unit somewhere. Looking through the unit's gpx folder on my Mac, I found a number of files with that date. After backing the folder up to my computer, I (tediously) deleted individual files and/or enclosing folders involved, then reconnected to check until it was gone. Finally, I made a quick backup of the resulting clean configuration. No idea how it got there, but I'm happy now.

An almost identical thing happened with an offending and impossible to delete iPhoto Event showing up in iTunes whenever my iPhone was connected and I needed to do similarly to get rid of it. Sometimes, I wish software would quit trying to be so "helpful."

    Good luck.
