Attention Bicyclists - what would you want?

If BaseCamp offered a bicycling mode that customized the way BaseCamp works, what would you want it to do?

We need your feedback, but in order to get it in a way that allows us to better priorities features we need you to follow the following guidelines.
Please list two things you would want the mode to do or change. You may only list the 2 most important items, any more and the post will be deleted.

Also, please list 1 or 2 things that you currently like about the latest BaseCamp release so we know what should stay the same.
  • What I would like to have
    - ability to combine planning of route and track in one trip
    - because my 705 is not able to follow exactly the way I planned in Basecamp, the ability to export directly .tcx files would be nice

    Basecamp - what I like
    - full screen mode
    - filtering is good now ( though I don't like the screen design in the last build of Basecamp)

    Regards

    Thanx for the opportunity

    Hi,

I would like to see a heart-rate/candence data option visible in BaseCamp - amongst EVERY piece of data recoded by the GPS.

I use my GPSMap62S to data record in a huge range of activities (4WD'ing, Cycling, Running, Static Exercising [Chin-ups, Push-ups, etc]), and would want the option to make my own choices of what is displayed where (not being locked into only having only particular fields available on certain pages).

Hopefully your 'modes' allows for a fully customizable pages (perhaps a 'profile' type system would be ok...).

Thank you for the opportunity to provide input.

We appreciate the feedback, but I'm pretty sure you are using the PC version of BaseCamp. Mac BaseCamp already has the ability to export TCX files, but it has no full screen mode.

Is there a reason you don't want to use Training Center to view your fitness data? You can import the GPX files from your GPSMap 62 and it already shows heart rate and cadence.

I can't remember the last time open RoadTrip, BaseCamp has replaced RT (great move by Garmin) but I don't think I want to see BaseCamp replacing Training Center. I can run both applications at the same time and used the same set of installed maps in both applications. I think most people that frequent the forum welcomes feature creep and bloated software, myself included but I want to see Garmin be successful, especially in the mac market. I fear the average user and even the writers evaluating BaseCamp would quickly become confused.

I do use Training Centre, but the '3 exercise type' limit is very LIMITING... Also, it's keeping track of data in yet another program. BaseCamp is fantastic - just would be even better with other data being available as well.

Also, is it possible to add any/all of the data recorded on the GPS into the track log and then view it via BaseCamp?

Is this feedback for the GPS or am I misunderstanding?

No, it's for BaseCamp (and perhaps the GPS :) ). Is it possible to save the current user profile in the track log as well, so that when imported into BaseCamp (or other programs, ie Training Centre), the different 'modes' that you're requesting feedback from are automatically selected/identified and/or linked to the profiles in the program?

Also, whilst I'm on feature requests ( :) ) - could you please add live GPS tracking OR create a 'Mobile Mac' (like Mobile PC only way, way cooler).

    :) Thanx again...
  • I to would like to have the heart rate data etc visible in Basecamp
I use a Dakota 20 and I have problems uploading the data to the Connect site as it does not show the heart rate, if I upload new data from the unit
I have to do it manually and then it does show the heart rate but not show what the unit it came from is:(
and also I can not seem to get Training camp to work with the Dakota
  • To get Training Center to work with the Dakota, you would need to choose File->Import and then browse to /Garmin/GPX/Current on the Dakota. If you import the Current.gpx from that directory it should contain your heart rate.
  • Ah right many thanks for the info
is there a way that it will do it auto?
would be good to view it in BaseCamp though
  • No, currently you must import GPX files into Training Center manually. We already have showing heart rate in BaseCamp on our potential feature list.
