Basecamp and Big Sur

Hello,

I just installed Basecamp on my Mac yesterday, plugged in my Oregon650t and man it's running slow beyond belief. Didn't have this problem on my 2011 Mac. Is there a way to fix this problem? Seems like every second or two, the rainbow wheel of death shows up and stops me from navigating through the app. Current maps I have on device are US too 100K. Code red, please help. *UPDATE*---Change map view from 2-D to 3-D until a new update release from Garmin. Works good.

  • 4.8.10 is not new.

  • Hi AcadiaBH, as all the reviews I've seen about this not working correctly seem to be referring to 4.8.9, eg: "hi, with me too, I'm using BaseCamp 4.8.9 and Big Sur 11.0 Beta (20A5354i)... :-( "  - I'm simply stating that with 4.8.10 it still does not work. If this is not the newest version, where can I get the next new version - maybe that works? I've been out with an injury for a couple of months and just got back to using my GPS, hence the recent (obviously not so new) update for me, sorry if I upset you.

  • What AcadiaBH is simply saying is: Many of us have long noted this identical problem, even with v4.8.10. That is the most recent BC Mac version that Garmin has released to date. We are all waiting for a future update. No reason to project that anyone is upset, except with Garmin.

  • Why would you say I'm upset?  You stated you updated to 4.8.10 which could be interpreted to express you also thought 4.8.10 to be the latest. I mean, why would you intentionally update to something less than the latest?

  • Look over the Change Log, or in this case the Lack of Change Log.

    Here it is: www8.garmin.com/.../download_details.jsp

  • Specifically there is nothing noting revisions to make BaseCamp compatible with macOS 11, Big Sur.

    N-O-T-H-I-N-G!!!!

Revisions are listed for previous macOS releases. None for macOS 11. N-O-N-E.

  • 4.8.10 has been released in September but contained nothing specific for mac OS 11. I don't think they used the MacOS beta to test anything, they just pushed other updated they had in the pipeline. So the 2D map issue is not solved in that version. We need another update. IN the meantime you will be able to work fine in 3D view mode. I don't like it but at least it works as a workaround.

  • , can you please give us a status update? Thanks Slight smile

  • I have one of the new ARM/M1 Macs (a Mac Mini specifically) and while Basecamp seems like it might be operational with 3D only any of my Garmin GPS devices I connect disconnect repeatedly when trying to load the maps in Basecamp (which of course causes the map loads to fail).  Everything else that connects and updates via USB works just fine (to include my InReach devices).  Several other devices from other vendors that also update software/firmware via USB also work fine (all of these apps are also running using Rosetta 2).  I am also curious if Garmin has any official statement on when the Explore portal which is supposed to be replacing Basecamp is going to get something resembling feature parity with Basecamp (honestly I would love to just use Explore but at this point the feature set is just not where it needs to be).

  • I'm having the same problem ... very very slow ... impossible to do anythings...
