Basecamp 4.8.9 - Backup / Restore removes track timestamps

Hi,

i want to migrate my basecamp data from BC 4.8.9 running macOS High Sierra to a new mac running catalina and BC same version.

I tried backup on old mac and restore into a fresh library from the backup file, which somehow works.

However all tracks loose their timestamps and elevation info.

Due to elder posts this could be a side effect of a historic bug ...

Is there any recommended procedure to migrate the data?

I can duplicate this issue. This is definately a CRITICAL BUG that needs to be fixed very quickly. Loss of data is never acceptable.

One way:

Copy the tracks from old version of BC to a handheld.

Upgrade BC.

Copy the tracks from the handheld to new version of BC.

If you don't have a handheld that should also work if you copy them to/from any removeable drive, eg sd card or memory stick

You can also EXPORT the track from Basecamp to a GPS file and then IMPORT these tracks to a new Basecamp database file and the info is preserved. Only BACKUP/RESTORE loses the data. This issue needs a HIGH PRIORITY fix. Data loss issues are NEVER, EVER acceptable in a program and require a quick fix, especially in the backup/restore process.

Apparently this has happened 4 years ago on Mac and Basecamp. I wonder if it was ever fixed or this is a new bug. See here for the link to the thread.

I reported this directly to Garmin FOUR WEEKS ago and sent them my backup data files and other requested info and have yet to hear back from them. Apparently data loss issue are unimportant to them.

I just installed Basecamp 4.8.10 and thought this SEVERE data loss bug would be fixed but it is still broken. I did a new test by doing a Backup and Restore to a new database using 4.8.10 and the data is missing in the restored database. Apparently Garmin doesn't care about loss of the users data. Poor job Garmin. I did receive a reply from Garmin which did not sound promising.

I don't know why I would want to choose a new Garmin GPS when Garmin will not fix the software that goes with the GPS, especially a SEVERE bug like this.

Sure, Garmin... I'll just run right out and begin anew with a totally different (and inferior, IMO) operating system just so you can continue to ignore the Mac community. (Oh, and I'll be selling my house because the kitchen faucet drips a little...)

Garmin said in another thread they are working on fixing Basecamp to work on Big Sur. I wonder if a fix for this DATA LOSS bug will be included or if Garmin still thinks data loss for the user is acceptable in backups.

Garmin-Andrew reached out to me today re this issue. I assume that he is contacting you, also, bobgps.

Now, Basecamp Mac v 4.8.11 is out... advertised as a Big Sur fix. I hesitate upgrading until I have all of my tracks safely saved...
