Losing data when importing Windows backup to Basecamp on Mac

Dear all,

I just got an iMac and after managing to install Basecamp and also moving my maps from my Windows laptop to my Mac I am encountering a strange thing when trying to move my Basecamp library.
First I make a backup from my library on my Windows laptop. When I import this backup in Basecamp on my mac I lose in all tracks all datapoints of time, elevation, temperature and heartbeat.
In the tracks appearing on my mac there are only four things present: trackpoint indexnumber, distance between the points, heading and location.
Does anyone know what is happening here? My laptop runs Win10 and had had all updates and latent Basecamp version. iMac is brand new with also all updates installed together with the latest Basecamp version.

Thank you very much,
Marc

    Import or Restore???

    Your terminology has me confused.

Ordinarily, I would BACKUP the BaseCamp library on the Win10 machine and then I would RESTORE it to the iMac. That would give me the entire BaseCamp library on the iMac.

If I were Importing I would be bringing in a file either saved from another machine or one that had resided on a device or one I had previously Exported from the iMac.

So, which have you done; the entire BaseCamp library or some individual files?

Since some devices strip out data when you save them on the device one can not always be certain that Saved files from the device have all the data.If they are ActiveLogs they might have all the data.

What kind of files are they? I vaguely remember BaseCamp having some problems in the past with log type files from Running devices.

If you wish, post one from the Win10 machine that you know has all the data and I will try importing that file into my iMac to see what I get.
  • Sorry for the confusion. I'll explain again.

I made a BACKUP of the library on my Win10 laptop. Then I RESTORED the library on the Mac using the BACKUP file.
Opening a track on the Mac revealed that all elevation, temperature, time and HR data were gone.
All the tracks I have come from either a Oregon450/600 or an EDGE800/ explore 1000.
When exporting a single track to a single .gpx file and importing that on the Mac, all data is present.

    Thank you,
    Marc

    Thanks, I'm easily confused :>)

Now its starting to sound like a bug for sure. Then the question is it in the Windows Backup or the OS/X import?

A couple of things to try might be to export one or two tracks with all the data on your Windows machine, then make a new library on that machine, import the files into the new library, then back it up and then restore it to the Windows machine and look at the files. Then take the files you exported, transfer them over to the Mac and do the same thing again this time on the Mac. That should help determine where the error might be.

My WAG is that perhaps one of the programs is not setting the proper xml schema or is setting it in the wrong place during the BACKUP-RESTORE process. On your Mac you can use the free "TextWrangler" program to look at the files and see where the data might be getting lost. (Just Google it)
  • So I did a test. I made a backup on my Win10 laptop and restored that backup file on a Win7 laptop. On the Win7 laptop all data was present after the restore. So the Backup file from the Win10 laptop contains all data. Also when exporting a single track to gpx and importing that on the Mac shows no data loss.
So the problem seems to be on the Mac. While restoring a Backup with all data present, it somehow loses the time, temp, HR and cadence data.
