Basecamp worked fine before I switched to the Big Sur Beta.
Now it runs extremely slow and I get the beach ball every time I click anything.

I have found a solution for me, MacBook Pro Late 2013: Select Menu "View" > "Show 3D Maps only" (translated from the German version, maybe the English version says something different). Then BaseCamp runs…
Exactly. Well said. The fact that Garmin is dead silent on this means they were probably thinking it would just work without having to touch a thing.. Not a good sign.
See "3D solution" below. HOWEVER, please Garmin, do not consider this a valid long time workaround. 3D works but I hate it. Poor graphics and it is a nuisance to compare what I see in BC and what I see…
This issue has prevented me from upgrading to Big Sur. I tried 3D map display with Catalina and it is definitely faster and smoother than 2D so I hope that if and when a fix for BC comes that the laggy 2D display is fixed.
Betas are exactly for that reason. I'm a participant in the Apple Beta program, that's the whole point, to make sure big problems like this do not happen. Things like this are found and remedied before a general release to the public.
Closing this thread as Garmin are apparently aware of the issue. In the meantime the workaround is to use 3D map view
