Transfer problem from basecamp to nuvi

Hello, new member here.  I created a simple one-way route on my basecamp ( 4.8.7). It is named and shows up on "my computer". When I used the "device" button (upper LH corner) it indicates it is being sent to the nuvi 755 and I get a message saying "TRANSFER COMPLETE" but I cannot find it anywhere on the device.  Looked in "FAVORITES" & "CUSTOM ROUTES".

I see the steps of the route (Route to S-bury) on the left column in Basecamp.  I have a8 Gb SD card in the device (titled Nik-1) which sometimes appears before the nuvi fully engages with the BaseCamp program.  The steps of the route appear there as well. I take this to mean the route DID transfer to the SD card in the nuvi but how to I connect it up to show me the route when I want it?

Thanks for your replies.  Obviously I am totally tech ignorant & a declining geezer to boot.

  • Hi, not sure if you are responding to me, "DHride" or" Moman "from Canada.  I have checked and I am not from Canada,...not that there is anything wrong with that. I am originally from NYC and there is lots wrong with that I'm told. Anyways, I have a 500Mb SD card in the nuvi, NOTHING on it save one simple route I am trying to work with. Garmin tech said this should be fine for quite a bit of work.   nuvi 755 is the model.  I don't seem to be the only one here struggling with same or related issue.  Someday someone will figure it out & share.  I will just keep plugging away and have to live as if the $ I spent on the GPS and the map upgrade is a waste.  Seems these devices are only good if you put in a start & finish point and then, like a good sheep, follow whatever they want to do.

  • That's the problem when you hijack a thread, it gets confusing, Anyway, in reply to @DHride you shouldn't need, or indeed use, the card for routes.  Open the route planner app on your nuvi, what do you see listed there?  Can you create a route on the device using the route planner app?  Note on older devices like yours you need to import routes you've sent from BaseCamp to your nuvi, did you do that?  If not you won't see the route in route planner on your nuvi.

  • @Moman There's no reason why your nuvi and BaseCamp would, if using the same map, not show the same detail, the fact they don't is confusing.  What is listed if you go to Settings, Map & Vehicle, myMaps?

  • Thanks, will add this info to my "detectice's notebook" although I don't think it is what is causing my particular issue.  It could be a simple as stupid non-tech geezer-itis.  WHo knows.  If I ever figure it out, I'll post the solution.

Wish I had a buddy living next door who was a whiz at this.  Nothing but buttholes though.

  • Well it will be if you haven't imported the route into the route planner app.  Need to go to Tools - My Data - Import route

  • On the Nuvi settings>map&vehicle>my maps  shows CN North America NT 2020.30 US & Canada

  • On Nuvi, settings > map & vehicle > my maps shows CN North America NT 2020.3 US & Canada

  • Well that's weird then, not sure why BaseCamp shows different detail to your device, assuming the zoom levels are set correctly.  Try just sending a route created using the route tool rather than using the trip planner app in BaseCamp.  Does that work?

  • Update!

Was talking with a friend. He says I must have some drivers/files etc. missing on the Nuvi. Could be I guess. He says it happened to him once when he did an update without being able to let it finish because of power failure . When he re-updated he noticed something strange with his GPS.

Somehow he was able to do a complete cleanup of his GPS and re-install everything from scratch. Had no issue after.

Is there any way to reset GPS to factory and reinstall everything - he said just reinstalling maps will not do it.

  • Yes .. sorry about highjacking this thread - thanks for reminding me. will start a new one
