BaseCamp 4.5.2 is now available

The following is a list of changes:
  • Added Mac OS X 10.11 support.
  • Disabled map coverage for device maps.
  • Fixed issue with generating map tiles during app termination.
  • Fixed issues with discovering USB devices.

The Appstore version will be released later next week.
  • My 478 worked fine up until the latest software upgrade.
But, worked fine was through the Thunderbolt cable connecting my apple monitor to the laptop.
The monitor has three USB 2 port son the back that had allowed the 478 to work.

I doubt I will ever get rid of my 478, I really like it. So, I still keep a windows laptop handy for when I need to download the tracks.
  • Interesting. I had tried Thunderbolt to a Belkin hub and then on to the unit with no success. How do you access your unit when you're on the road? This is where I missed the connectivity the most. My "older" iMac was still functional for the initial route and map load, but once on a trip I lost all computer based editing and, more importantly, track management.
  • No other hubs I have tried worked, line or bus powered, only the Apple monitor.

On the road if i need to access it? I bring a windows laptop.
Which means for motorcycle trips I I am without.
  • Wurth would still very much like to try 4.5.1 and have the outline technical info so can feed back to Apple? Surely the change by Apple is affecting other manufacturers devices not just "non USB mass storage" Garmin's?

You can report the issue to Apple here: https://developer.apple.com/bug-reporting/
We are using the Apple ioKit framework for device detection.

We don't maintain a public repository of previous versions, but others here on the forum have indicated a 3rd party that does. I can't remember offhand though. I'm sure if you search the forums or post a question, then someone will know.

Wurth I have tested my 276C with BaseCamp 4.5.2 and the recently released OS X 10.11.3 and my unit is still not recognised in BaseCamp in My Garmin Devices as it was in Yosemite. I did report the issue to Apple via developer bug reporting few weeks ago but have had nothing back from them - as you say probably not a big issue for them unless it it affecting other devices. In light of the continued failure of unit to be recognised can you put into the next BaseCamp update an investigation and correction of this?
  • I'll leave the case open, so it will be considered for the next BaseCamp release. However, we don't have another another release planned after 4.6 in the near future and I don't think this item will make the cut based on higher priority (app stability) issues that would make it into a maintenance release, so it could be a year before we would realistically consider further investigation of this item. Wish I had better news for you, but I don't want you to get your hopes too high on this one.

Wurth I confirm that my 276C still does not appear in "My Garmin Devices" in Base Camp 4.6.2 when my MBA is running recently released OSX 10.11.4 - have reported this to Apple via developer bug reporting. Apple did ask me to run a beta version of 10:11:4 back in February but was reluctant as this is my main machine. Must say disappointed at the lack of traction in resolving this issue by Apple and Garmin.
  • Same issue with a 276c

I have exactly the same issue. I never try to connect my old 276c since the update from Yosemite to El Capitan.... I have exactly the same issue. Base Camp doesn't recognize anymore my device....
What we could do? Seems that this issue is for a long time and no fix!

Wurth being obviously very dissatisfied with your " could be a year before we would realistically consider further investigation of this item" statement I approached Garmin UK and after a lot of very poor technical communication from Garmin I had the following back ".....I am afraid the 276C unit will not be supported by Basecamp and due to the age of the unit we are very limited in the support we can offer. If the unit is not detected by the computer I am afraid it is because this feature is no longer supported as it is a serial port unit.........." I have not included a commercial part basically asking me to buy a new unit as this is not technical and in the circumstance absurd. Can you confirm for the forum thread members if the statement regarding serial connection is correct and at same time let us know the current target date for correction of this issue?
