Spotify CIQ App not working correctly

This thread has been closed. We appreciate the helpful feedback and have used it to put together the content below to help guide through initial setup and answer common troubleshooting questions.

We'll continue to incorporate your feedback and improve our products. If you continue to have issues, please reach out to Product Support for additional help.

  • If you go to your Device Settings in Garmin Connect Mobile and access Music, do you see that the Spotify app has an update that is available? An update was released last week that has resolved many issues for our users, although we understand you may still be experiencing some. We are continuing to investigate the cause for multiple symptoms and appreciate everyone's patience in the meantime.

Just bought a forerunner 245 music, I have downloaded Spotify through connect IQ and the watch is telling me connect IQ needs me to login but there doesn’t appear to be any option via connect IQ for me to login to Spotify

  • When you open the Connect IQ app on your Forerunner for the first time, it should prompt you to login on your phone while in the Garmin Connect Mobile app. Did you not see any messaging like this when using the Connect IQ App for the first time?

  • Since you are experiencing multiple issues, please contact Product Support so we can assist you directly.

  • Former Member Former MemberWe have seen this issue caused by firewalls or security restrictions on certain Internet networks. Please try using a different WiFi network (preferably a home network rather than a workplace network) or use mobile data. If you still aren't able to sign into Spotify, please contact Product Support so we can assist you directly.

  • Former Member Former Member Former Member If the Spotify App is failing to download in the Connect IQ Store App, please make sure the software is up to date on your watch, then try again. Also, before attempting to download the Spotify App, make sure the watch isn't actively syncing in the Garmin Connect App. Since network issues or firewalls can prevent downloads from completing, you can try using a different WiFi network or attempt downloading using mobile data. If Spotify still isn't downloading for you, please contact Product Support so we can assist you directly.

  • Former Member Former Member If your Spotify content is failing to sync, please ensure that the software on your watch is up to date and that you are connected to a secure WiFi network (preferably a home network rather than a work network). If you share a WiFi network with others, it may help to coordinate usage so that no other streaming or downloading is occurring while you are syncing Spotify data so that your bandwidth isn't limited. Also, make sure your watch has plenty of battery life before attempting to sync. If it is still failing to sync, please contact Product Support so we can assist you directly.

A couple of things I have tried after the workaround I saw from another thread (the one where you have to download the crt file) failed:

    • Removed the wi-fi connection (I have a private connection at home and had the other devices disconnect from the network so that I have the connection all to myself) and then added it again
    • Added my backup wifi connection (also a private one)
    • Uninstalled, re-installed the Garmin Connect app, paired the watch again
    • Used another phone (Samsung Galaxy S10) instead of my iPhone to pair the watch
    • Checked for an update from Spotify and Garmin Connect

But all efforts were futile. It gets stuck here (showing Spotify syncing): https://share.getcloudapp.com/z8uXrXeZ then after a while it gets weirder as my phone either:

    • was shut down and I had to turn it on
    • Shows sync failed then goes back to the Playlists

It would be great if Garmin can look into this issue. It can be quite frustrating.

Purchased a vivoactive last week, but can’t get Spotify to load, it seeks permission, says it will load next time the watch is synced, but nothing happens. Using an iPhone, brand new Vivoactive, have Spotify premium and have tried several different internet connections
