VIRB Edit 3.0 can be downloaded at http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591. Updating from inside the app should be available shortly.

A lot has changed since 2.9.

This is the official change list:

  • New, clearer application design and video editing timeline
  • Added support for duplicating, splitting, and trimming clips in the timeline via context menu
  • Added a new 'G-Metrix' tab to display what kind of data is available in the current clip's G-Metrix log
  • Added support for VIRB X/XE action cameras
  • Added easy switching between clips recorded at the same time by automatically detecting and aligning videos that start and end within 4 seconds of each other
  • Added support for adding photos to videos
  • Added photo sharing
  • Added 'bookmark' camera icons in the video editing timeline for photos taken on VIRB X/XE cameras while a video clip was recording
  • Added support for multiple photo/clip selection in the Media Library to make it easier to delete or add multiple photos/clips at once
  • Added support for multiple video selection in the Gallery
  • Added support for gauges and graphs of OBD-II data
  • Added support for gauges displaying HRM-Run's running oscillation and stance time data
  • Playback now stops at final frame. Playing from this point restarts the video from the beginning.
  • Fixed compass 'bearing' gauges spinning while stopped
  • Fixed various G-Metrix alignment issues
  • Fixed various issue for users with non-standard characters in their user name.

I also have the same issue when using a gpx file, all GPS overlays are stuck, used to work fine in 2.9.2

Problem occours when I create a video from scratch, but if I edit an old video which was original created with version 2.9.2, then it works fine and GPS overlays are updating fine.

I am having the same issue. I can't work around it. Things I tried:
    • Trying to edit existing clip from previous version. Things looked normal, but the gauges are stuck to some (the initial?) values
    • Starting from scratch (new clip, import media, import .fit file). Gauges are stack to initial values.
    • Using gpx file from garmin connect site has the same problems.

Also: Adjust start time -> Press the forward frame button crashes the app instantly and is repeatable all the time. I have sent already reports, just in case this is on Windows 7, 64 bit.

A small detail: In the old version I used to be able to drag the red dot on the map and at the gps sync view. This was much easier than playing with the progress bar or the buttons. It would be great if you could enable this again.

Thank you for your feedback. It's much appreciated, and we are working hard to fix these issues as quickly as possible.

We'll get the stuck gauges fixed.
Thanks for reporting the Activity Start time bug and for describing the steps. We'll fit it.
Dragging the red dot will be back in 3.1.

I'm very pleased with the new version, good job :D !
What I really recommend for next step are:
    1. map overlay (Openstreet map maybe?)
    2. exporting with GPU support (CUDA and similar). Please, that would be final cherry on the cake!

    Thanks!

We'd still like to do the map overlays, but it's complicated. I will make sure we revisit this as soon possible.
We do use the GPU (quite a lot actually), but do not use CUDA. We're never really quite done with export (both reliability and performance). So this is definitely a possibility.

I'm having the same problem only possibility is to install the older garmin virb edit version 2.9.2 and import the all videos into the clip library and then install the new one. And then the gauges work in the new version.

BUT if I try to import new videos into the new virb edit version, the gauges do not work!

And the reset list you gave does not work at all, even I tried to forcefully load the gps matrix data in to the program...

I hope you will fix this problem as soon as possible. The new version is good, but unusable because of this major bug.

Thanks for your feedback. It is our #1 priority to get this fixed.
  • I've browsed trying to find the previous version 2.9.2 I was happy with. Any chance Garmin will make version 2.9.2 available until the fix is ready?

  • Importing files doesn't Work

I'm using a new Macbook and the files won't import.
It shows 5 new files I click on import, it asks if I want a prefix VIRB, I Click import, It says 5/5 successfully imported, but no option to remove files from virb and files aren't moved to to the (external) drive /Volumes/LaCie/VIRB.
Am I doing something wrong, it worked fine on my old windows machine but the Graphics card was not compatible with Virb Edit.
  • ... files aren't moved to to the (external) drive /Volumes/LaCie/VIRB.

Did you go into the Preferences and set the external drive as the import location? You can also set the photos import location there, and I suggest you do that as well.

Downloaded 3.0 today - initial impressions great. BUT..I cannot get the G-Metrix to synch with the video; it has a life of its own. I did a track school on my bike on Sunday and filmed using the Virb Elite. I have tried several times to synch the video with the map and gauges, but it does its own thing. Its pretty obvious on a racetrack when it shows 60kph while you are standing still. Any suggestions?
