VIRB Edit 3.0 can be downloaded at http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591. Updating from inside the app should be available shortly.

A lot has changed since 2.9.

This is the official change list:

  • New, clearer application design and video editing timeline
  • Added support for duplicating, splitting, and trimming clips in the timeline via context menu
  • Added a new 'G-Metrix' tab to display what kind of data is available in the current clip's G-Metrix log
  • Added support for VIRB X/XE action cameras
  • Added easy switching between clips recorded at the same time by automatically detecting and aligning videos that start and end within 4 seconds of each other
  • Added support for adding photos to videos
  • Added photo sharing
  • Added 'bookmark' camera icons in the video editing timeline for photos taken on VIRB X/XE cameras while a video clip was recording
  • Added support for multiple photo/clip selection in the Media Library to make it easier to delete or add multiple photos/clips at once
  • Added support for multiple video selection in the Gallery
  • Added support for gauges and graphs of OBD-II data
  • Added support for gauges displaying HRM-Run's running oscillation and stance time data
  • Playback now stops at final frame. Playing from this point restarts the video from the beginning.
  • Fixed compass 'bearing' gauges spinning while stopped
  • Fixed various G-Metrix alignment issues
  • Fixed various issue for users with non-standard characters in their user name.

3.0 has changed the layout of VIRB Edit in an attempt to make the tabs on the edit page easier to find, and give more room for vital editing functions. The app also got a face-lift, we hope you like it.

We came up with a new timeline that will hopefully make editing easier, you can trim and split directly within the time-line (right-click to bring up the context menu).

You can now duplicate clips, and you can multi-select clips and videos in the gallery and the media library.

We added support for the upcoming VIRB X/XE cameras: http://virb.garmin.com/en-US/virb-xe.

You can now import photos from your VIRB and integrate them into your videos.

GPS Logs have been rebranded to G-Metrix. You can now see which data you have and easily find gauges for that data type. We also added a bunch of new templates and gauges.

One of our biggest concerns is making sure VIRB Edit can successfully play and export our users' videos.

We've made quite a few changes in 3.0 that will hopefully have a very positive impact.

Export is now run on a separate process, which should fix a lot of the out-of-memory issues we've had reported.

We are continuously working on further improving matters, so please let us know if you are still experiencing problems.

Please make sure your machine meets the minimum requirements and you have read the FAQ. Make sure your video card drivers are current (check with the manufacturer, usually Intel, ATI or Nvidia; Windows doesn't always offer the most current drivers).

VIRB Edit 3.0 added sync support for multiple cameras. This will work best with VIRB X/XE; and if you use a remote control or the Mobile application.

If you add a clip to a video and there are other clips that started and ended at the same time (within a grace period of around 3 seconds) VIRB Edit will offer you to switch between camera angles.

We've got more planned for the future, so stay tuned.
  • Fantastic!!

    Downloading now and will test.

Thanks for all everyone's effort with this. :)

  • Hi there,

    First impressions are great!! :)

Takes a little getting use to, and I'm sure there are lots of things I haven't discovered yet.

I have created a few videos and exported them - everything seems to work fine! :)

I'll do a few more this evening (I have a backlog of rides to edit and publish)

    Thanks,

    J.
  • I tried 3.0.1 with a new video from my VIRB Elite today and it didn't detect any sensor data - video should have had HR and cadence.

Does it have position and speed? Do you mind sharing the FIT and GPX file from your Elite (right-click on clip, Properties, GPS Info, then Export GPS and FIT, if available).
  • If I load 5 consecutive clips from my Virb, can I overlay the G-metrix data I recorded from my Fenix 3 on that ride over all of them? Or do I have to select each clip and manually sync it to the same GPS file over and over like in 2.9?

You'll still need to add them to each clip. The G-Metrix will span across clips though.
