VIRB Edit 3.0 can be downloaded at http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591. Updating from inside the app should be available shortly.

A lot has changed since 2.9.

This is the official change list:

  • New, clearer application design and video editing timeline
  • Added support for duplicating, splitting, and trimming clips in the timeline via context menu
  • Added a new 'G-Metrix' tab to display what kind of data is available in the current clip's G-Metrix log
  • Added support for VIRB X/XE action cameras
  • Added easy switching between clips recorded at the same time by automatically detecting and aligning videos that start and end within 4 seconds of each other
  • Added support for adding photos to videos
  • Added photo sharing
  • Added 'bookmark' camera icons in the video editing timeline for photos taken on VIRB X/XE cameras while a video clip was recording
  • Added support for multiple photo/clip selection in the Media Library to make it easier to delete or add multiple photos/clips at once
  • Added support for multiple video selection in the Gallery
  • Added support for gauges and graphs of OBD-II data
  • Added support for gauges displaying HRM-Run's running oscillation and stance time data
  • Playback now stops at final frame. Playing from this point restarts the video from the beginning.
  • Fixed compass 'bearing' gauges spinning while stopped
  • Fixed various G-Metrix alignment issues
  • Fixed various issue for users with non-standard characters in their user name.
  • Unfortunately I didn't keep the video file.

And due to a mishap my VIRB is now at the bottom of a canal. :(

    What a bummer. :(

We should be able to go ahead without the video file, just makes it a bit harder. Did you try to manually sync the file?

Work around for Timelapse Gauge Freeze

Ok I think i've found something.

I did a timelapse cycling video a couple of weeks ago and it worked fine in the previous version of VirbEdit with the data changing, now in the latest version of virbedit the data is stuck and not changing. I've re imported the video and its still the same. Any ideas?

The Gauges being frozen only occurs with 2.9.2 Timelapse Clips (correct me if you see otherwise). Timelapse Clips imported in VIRB Edit 3.0.1 work correctly. Here is a work around to get 2.9.2 Timelapse clips working in VIRB Edit 3.0.1.

    Note:
You will have to re-edit any project that used 2.9.2 Timelapse clips
Remember to select "Keep" in step 4.

Video walkthrough can be found here:
    http://screencast.com/t/TSbZG3k1r8

    Steps:
    1. Start VIRB Edit
    2. Right click the Timelapse clip in your Media Library and select Delete
    3. Select Delete on the first popup
    4. Select "Keep Files" on the second popup
    5. Select the "Import Clips & Photo" button
    6. Select the "Import Other" button
    7. Browse to your Clip Library (default is the My Videos folder) and select the Timelapse video (remember, it wasn't actually deleted, you selected "Keep" in step 4)
    8. Your Timelapse video should now correctly display Gauges

Just tried that "work around" & the G- Metrix track has disappeared. No biggie as I already exported the video on version 2.9.2 and was only using it as a tester. Will be racing today and videoing the race, just wanna make sure I got my work flow sorted to edit the video faster as It's been awhile since I've got the camera's out ;)
  • My overlays are stuck. Only the data at the beginning of a new sequence is refreshed, then it stucks until end of the cutted sequence. This is with all sequences in the movie. I didn't experience this in the former version. There the overlays worked properly with life data.

I am having the same issue. I can't work around it. Things I tried:
    • Trying to edit existing clip from previous version. Things looked normal, but the gauges are stuck to some (the initial?) values
    • Starting from scratch (new clip, import media, import .fit file). Gauges are stack to initial values.
    • Using gpx file from garmin connect site has the same problems.

Also: Adjust start time -> Press the forward frame button crashes the app instantly and is repeatable all the time. I have sent already reports, just in case this is on Windows 7, 64 bit.

A small detail: In the old version I used to be able to drag the red dot on the map and at the gps sync view. This was much easier than playing with the progress bar or the buttons. It would be great if you could enable this again.

    Plus 1
  • I kind of miss the gps map view in the raw video
  • I'm very pleased with the new version, good job :D !
What I really recommend for next step are:
    1. map overlay (Openstreet map maybe?)
    2. exporting with GPU support (CUDA and similar). Please, that would be final cherry on the cake!

I'm having the same problem only possibility is to install the older garmin virb edit version 2.9.2 and import the all videos into the clip library and then install the new one. And then the gauges work in the new version.

BUT if I try to import new videos into the new virb edit version, the gauges do not work!

And the reset list you gave does not work at all, even I tried to forcefully load the gps matrix data in to the program...

I hope you will fix this problem as soon as possible. The new version is good, but unusable because of this major bug.

It's still there if you hit the Map tab on the left side menu.
