VIRB Edit 3.0 can be downloaded at http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591. Updating from inside the app should be available shortly.

A lot has changed since 2.9.

This is the official change list:

  • New, clearer application design and video editing timeline
  • Added support for duplicating, splitting, and trimming clips in the timeline via context menu
  • Added a new 'G-Metrix' tab to display what kind of data is available in the current clip's G-Metrix log
  • Added support for VIRB X/XE action cameras
  • Added easy switching between clips recorded at the same time by automatically detecting and aligning videos that start and end within 4 seconds of each other
  • Added support for adding photos to videos
  • Added photo sharing
  • Added 'bookmark' camera icons in the video editing timeline for photos taken on VIRB X/XE cameras while a video clip was recording
  • Added support for multiple photo/clip selection in the Media Library to make it easier to delete or add multiple photos/clips at once
  • Added support for multiple video selection in the Gallery
  • Added support for gauges and graphs of OBD-II data
  • Added support for gauges displaying HRM-Run's running oscillation and stance time data

Hi, I got everything working after uninstall 3.0.1, reinstall 2.9.2 version and upgrade to 3.0.1

The new problem is how to change the gauges unit to metric?
Both my Edge 1000 and Virb Elite are already in metric unit but still show statute unit in virb edit gauges.

Rizal change your units in the application preferences. And you gauges will immediately comply.

I tried to export the pngs today of a 2 hour movie and got an out of memory after about half an hour. :(
  • I have encountered some problems when importing images and videos from a Virb Elite. I am using Windows 8.1
I first changed in settings my clip storage location, since I prefer to make a new folder and change it for each import
I loaded several new pictures and videos. after importing I manually rotated 180 some pictures from Windows photo preview since I took them inverted
I tried to open one of the pictures from Virb edit, but Virb Edit crashed and completely rebooted my laptop
I tried to open virb edit, removed one of the rotated images, and added it to virb edit again by dragging it from the folder into Virb Edit, tried to open it.. Laptop reboot again
Once more I open Virb Edit, got a message telling me the latest clips could not be found, and I noticed my last setting for import folder was not saved, It went back to the last setting I had. Any idea where can I look what could be wrong with this?

By the way, after the second reboot when I got the latest imported clips missing, I am also getting the initial hint callouts as if its the first time I am launching Virb Edit 3
If I try to import the videos again, from the pc folder they were imported into, I get no g metrix data
After that, every launch I am getting the missing clips and images message. how can I dismiss it!? clean those references from the database?

The problem seem related to image viewing since I am able to import again the videos and pair them with the fit files on
    C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Database\2\FIT\<number>

If i import images and try to open them, I get the same computer reboot.
  • I still don't see a way to make virb edit recognize or interpret multiple fit files or activities generated by device turn off, or battery swaps occurred during a long trip as one big activity in terms of the distance and elevation graph
This might be easier with a prompt or a setting from the camera when it is turned on such as (continue last activity yes / no) so it would keep writing the last fit file
Even if I join all the activities in basecamp and generate one big gpx file, it seems I am only able to line the clips with the first device power on lapse.
I got an Oregon 650 I am using to record the same activity, and when I select it to use the oregon activity file instead of the virb, each time I select the activity, the next time I select it for the next clip, the activity appears each time with one more line with the same activity name

It already is in Windows 8.1, (I believe Windows 7 is the problem).

Could you attach one of the photos that causes VIRB Edit to crash?

I just noticed the bug myself this weekend about device tracks showing up more than once. We'll get that fixed.

We currently require a single file if you want several clips to be recognized as a single activity. This is somewhat tedious, but you might be able to combine several files into one with BaseCamp or similar tools.
