VIRB Edit 3.0 can be downloaded at http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591. Updating from inside the app should be available shortly.

A lot has changed since 2.9.

This is the official change list:

  • New, clearer application design and video editing timeline
  • Added support for duplicating, splitting, and trimming clips in the timeline via context menu
  • Added a new 'G-Metrix' tab to display what kind of data is available in the current clip's G-Metrix log
  • Added support for VIRB X/XE action cameras
  • Added easy switching between clips recorded at the same time by automatically detecting and aligning videos that start and end within 4 seconds of each other
  • Added support for adding photos to videos
  • Added photo sharing
  • Added 'bookmark' camera icons in the video editing timeline for photos taken on VIRB X/XE cameras while a video clip was recording
  • Added support for multiple photo/clip selection in the Media Library to make it easier to delete or add multiple photos/clips at once
  • Added support for multiple video selection in the Gallery
  • Added support for gauges and graphs of OBD-II data
  • Added support for gauges displaying HRM-Run's running oscillation and stance time data
  • Playback now stops at final frame. Playing from this point restarts the video from the beginning.
  • Fixed compass 'bearing' gauges spinning while stopped
  • Fixed various G-Metrix alignment issues
  • Fixed various issue for users with non-standard characters in their user name.

Well, for me everything works fine so far, but I have no idea how to use :" easy switching between clips recorded at the same time by automatically detecting and aligning videos that start and end within 4 seconds of each other"...what was the idea? In the past I've been cutting the clips from front and rear camera into short pcs and mixing them front\rear manually. So? How to use Your new feature???

Upon further tinkering the problem with G-Metrix seems to be related to the database folder. I completely uninstalled version 3.0.1 and installed 2.92, recreated the project from scratch (i.e. deleted and re-imported the videos and added the GPS tracks again) and the data was frozen. Deleting the database folder seemed to do the trick and now I have v2.92 working properly again. Perhaps someone from the Virb Edit team can verify this and give us an update. Now that I have the old version working again I am not really interested in tinkering with it until my latest videos are done and exported but after that I will try the same trick with 3.0.1 and see if it fixes it.
  • You'll still need to add them to each clip. The G-Metrix will span across clips though.

I have a hour and a half video (multiple clips because of size) I recorded with my Virb Elite. I aligned the G-Metrix data on the first clip but on the next clip the data jumps. My question is, since the data at the very beginning of clip #2 (about 15 to 20 seconds worth) should actually be at the back of clip #1, if I sync the GPS for clip #2 will clip #1 pickup the data at the beginning of clip #2 or will I have to edit the GPS tracks and move entries from one set of tracks to the other?

Hi guys, I just registered to share my thoughts on the newest version. While using version 2.92 everything worked just fine. I was working on a huge clip of my last holiday and when I updated to the most recent version the performance all of a sudden became horrible(GPS info mostly works though...). The live preview on mouse over is really choppy (please disable it if you can, or at least give us the option) and the video preview is sluggish as well.
So I want to roll back to the previous version and continue editing but i was wondering if project information is being saved when you uninstall version 3.01. I don't want to edit the whole clip again. Where are the projects stored? Many thanks for replying and thanks Garmin for keeping up the good work!

    Issue on Mac?

Greetings everyone, on the version 3.0.1 here, when I export I no longer get the gpx file on the exporting folder. Just the MP4. Is there a way to include this complete gpx of the full video as a separate file? Issue or removed feature? Thanks in advance!

I have an 2 hour video, with gauges like map, elevatio, cadence, speed, heart rate, etc. I wanna export this video in one single file (larger then 4 gb), or how can I make multiples videos, with gpx not to start from 0 after each video? I use Windows 7. Thank you.

We did remove this on purpose because we didn't find a compelling use case, and just seemed to complicate matters.

What is your use case? You can still export the gpx and fit files for each raw movie in the library.

im using a garmin virb elete ......ok its seems slightly easier to use ..just but my gps isnt included in the video files ..ie the overlay gauges dont work ..i need to add the "g matrix " , so i went to add them ( this is a pain to have to do this manually when it worked fine before ) it tells me there isnt a gps device connected ??
all i wanted is to show my speed and altitude but theres no current gmatrix files only old ones from videos 3 weeks ago ?? is this something im doing wrong or is it broke before its released
  • You can use the timeline to move inside your video.

Thanks, been trying to use it but find it a lot harder than the time bar in the video itself like it used to be.
