VIRB Edit 3.0 can be downloaded at http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591. Updating from inside the app should be available shortly.

A lot has changed since 2.9.

This is the official change list:

  • New, clearer application design and video editing timeline
  • Added support for duplicating, splitting, and trimming clips in the timeline via context menu
  • Added a new 'G-Metrix' tab to display what kind of data is available in the current clip's G-Metrix log
  • Added support for VIRB X/XE action cameras
  • Added easy switching between clips recorded at the same time by automatically detecting and aligning videos that start and end within 4 seconds of each other
  • Added support for adding photos to videos
  • Added photo sharing
  • Added 'bookmark' camera icons in the video editing timeline for photos taken on VIRB X/XE cameras while a video clip was recording
  • Added support for multiple photo/clip selection in the Media Library to make it easier to delete or add multiple photos/clips at once
  • Added support for multiple video selection in the Gallery
  • Added support for gauges and graphs of OBD-II data
  • Added support for gauges displaying HRM-Run's running oscillation and stance time data
  • Playback now stops at final frame. Playing from this point restarts the video from the beginning.
  • Fixed compass 'bearing' gauges spinning while stopped
  • Fixed various G-Metrix alignment issues
  • Fixed various issue for users with non-standard characters in their user name.
  • Something I have just found while typing the previous reply, I closed down Virb Edit using the X in the top right corner and then went to open it again using the icon in the task bar, but get a pop up message saying that Virb Edit is already running, which it isn't. Even if it were, it should bring the Virb page to the front like all the other programs do...
I had a look in Task Manager and it didn't show as an App that was still running, but under the "details" tab it still showed Virb Edit running, ended the process there and it now starts and stops ok, although I havent done any work in either.

I like the look. But how can I sync the GPS? Used to be on the right side of the screen after I merged data from my G500 and Virb Basic.

Try the left hand side under G Metrics.

The overlays don't work now! Speed, distance etc all just read 0. Use to work, till this version...

Regarding the issue with the gpx data not working ...
I've attempted to manually adjust the GPS data with the video using "Activity Start Time" and "G-Metrix Sync". "Activity Start Time" causes the software to crash with every attempt. And "G-Metrix Sync" is merely inop.

What I've notice with the sync is that the point in the video I choose (Step 1: Pick a frame ...) isn't being "obeyed".
    Illustration:
    -Choose "G-Metrix Sync"
-Step 1: Found the frame in my video with my first turn. In this case about 25 seconds in.
-Step 2: Found the corresponding location on the map. In this case about 37 seconds in.
    -Click "Done".
-Check video. Overlay is stuck on 120 bpm and 9 mph.
    -Go back to "G-Metrix Sync"
-Notice that tho the frame of the video is still at the turn the counter is at 0:00, but the map is at the previous location picked and still at 0:37.

I'm a late comer to the world of VIRB Edit but I can say I've used ver 2.9.2 with great success recently. Now after updating to 3.0.1 my .gpx files will not "sync" with my video. I can choose a point on the map to sync with the video but the data will not continue to follow along with the video.

One thing I need to mention, I'm using data from my iPhone Wahoo app in .gpx format. The data in the .gpx log includes Position, Elevation, Heart Rate, Speed, Distance, Grade and Bearing (this list is from the G-Metrix window in VIRB so I know the software is at least reading the data).

I'm inclined to think that the update has broken compatibility with certain third party files but as I've noted the file seems to be readable by VIRB Edit. Further I am able to edit a videos I made with 2.9.2 without this issue creeping up.

If the data shows up in the G-Metrix tab it should work. Would you mind sharing the gpx file?

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Obviously there are a few kinks and we'll work hard to get these fixed as quickly as possible.

We'll fix the Activity Start Time crash.
We'll look into gauges being "frozen".

    I apologize for the trouble.

When editing a clip in 3.01 is it possible to have the time slider back on the video like it used to be? Cant find a way to move forward and backward in the video other than play and pause.

You can use the timeline to move inside your video.

    FALAGAR, PM sent.

My video was also a timelapse, so may be the same issue as BROMPTONBUMBLEB experienced.

Thanks for the files. I am curious, did you try to manually sync the video? I do see data when I import the gpx to a video and align it to where it has data. (But I obviously don't have your video, so I am not sure if it's correct.)

Do you happen to still have the video file and would it be possible to share that as well? That would make it easier for me to create a device on my end that has the same data that you are working with.

    The path was \DCIM\101_VIRB\VIRB0002.MP4.
