Video and Data not in Sync - GPS Looks OK?

Hi I am a new owner user. First time out yesterday in a warm up for the weekends competition. We sprint and race Caterham's.

On downloading the video and data to VIRB Edit 2.4 it seems that the Data - the speed and Accelerometer info is about 5 seconds ahead of the video and GPS.

I have read about older versions not syncing but this was GPS and video. Its difficult to see exactly but it certainly looks like the GPS moves at the same time as the video but the speed info and accelerometers are way ahead. 5 seconds or so.

Now I have found how to sync the video to position but of course this is correct by my reckoning its only the data?

I am really not sure how this can happen as surely its the GPS that gives the speed so if at standstill on the video and still in the same place on the map does it show me doing 60mph??????????????

Everything else apart from the sound looks fantastic - not sure how the usb mic adapter is going to stand up to being used in the rain?

Any help appreciated.

I updated it yesterday - the day you released it.

I will try again in the road car later.

But since its unknown issue I guess 3.70 will not help?

I have been able to recreate your problem with firmware earlier then 3.70, however I have also seen it work correctly with 3.20. When I recreated your issue I noticed that the timestamp on the video was off by one hour plus or minus from local time. This would cause the issue you are seeing. Is it possible for you to check the time on your camera? If the time is correct I was hoping you could take another video to see that the problem has subsided.

Also, if you align your track to the position in the video where you would like it to be this should be a work around for your issue.

Hi I will take another video on Sunday.

Your work around of syncing position does not work as I stated in the original post.

Location/position is matched with video = no need to sync.

Speed and Accelerometers are ahead of video and location. Look carefully at the video and you can see that the data says 6mph whilst the car is still stationary.

Date is set to Automatic as is the daylight saving option.

I've had the sync issue for quite some time now. I've used my Virb Elite for six months, and the video synced fine with the gpx data the first three months. I always record using 720 with 50 or 60 fps. Today, the position starts off correctly but always moves much slower than the video. I've tried to adjust the gps file many times, but it never - NEVER - works. I've verified that the data is correct by using the same combination of video and gpx in DashWare and it works well. I've tried mp4-files from a GoPro 3 Black (also 720 with 50or 60 fps) in Virb Edit and also tried gpx-files from my Garmin Edge 705, but I get the same result. Sync is far off. If I use a gauge showing elapsed time, a minute takes about 1:40. I'm very disappointed, as it appears that 720 with 50 and 60 fps doesn't work in Virb Edit. Such a pity, because I enjoy using it.

I use the latest firmware (3.70) and latest version of Virb Edit.

    Any comments, anyone?

I am not aware of outstanding issues for track/GPS log alignment in 2.5.

Can you share an example MP4 and GPX file? Maybe on Dropbox? Then I could take a look.

    Please have a look here:

It's just a short clip, but shows the same sync issue as all clips later than early this year.

    Thanks in advance

I imported the video, aligned it where you passed Arsenalsgatan (I can see the pedestrian crossing painted white lines on Bing satellite, so aligning should be pretty accurate) and I don't think the video is looking that bad. The alignment is correct while you pass Arsenalsgatan and when you stop at the end (speed goes to 0 at the right time).

Turning into Wahrensdorffsgatan seems a bit off, but I think that is just spotty GPS data.

Does this look ok to you? Or is there something else I didn't notice?

Yep, your edit seems perfectly fine. If I try the same sync procedure as you, I end up like this:

The video is at my final destination, but the gps is just about to turn right into Wahrendorffsgatan. I've tried using metric/statute, but with the same result.
