Video and Data not in Sync - GPS Looks OK?

Hi I am a new owner user. First time out yesterday in a warm up for the weekends competition. We sprint and race Caterham's.

On downloading the video and data to VIRB Edit 2.4 it seems that the Data - the speed and Accelerometer info is about 5 seconds ahead of the video and GPS.

I have read about older versions not syncing but this was GPS and video. Its difficult to see exactly but it certainly looks like the GPS moves at the same time as the video but the speed info and accelerometers are way ahead. 5 seconds or so.

Now I have found how to sync the video to position but of course this is correct by my reckoning its only the data?

I am really not sure how this can happen as surely its the GPS that gives the speed so if at standstill on the video and still in the same place on the map does it show me doing 60mph??????????????

Everything else apart from the sound looks fantastic - not sure how the usb mic adapter is going to stand up to being used in the rain?

Any help appreciated.

Do you have an Elite or a Basic?

Which recording setting did you use?

If you create a video, click on a clip and then pick 'Adjust', can you make it align properly?

I have the Elite but i think you are refering to Elite Software? I didn't know there was an elite software unless it comes with the camera.

As i said i can move the gps position but that is correct it matches the video. Its the speed and g forces that are out of sync.

Thanks for getting back to us. Yeah, I meant what type of camera. No Elite software yet. :)

Hmm, it sounds like VIRB Edit is doing everything correctly if the position lines up. I am not sure why speed and acceleration would be out of sync.

We will release 2.5 soon, I'd be curious if you are seeing the same thing in the new version.

Greetings all. An observation that I have made after many frustrating attempts at synchronization of video with gps info in virb edit 2.4 came about after I changed the frame rate from 60 to 30 on the camera. After this change, the video seems to match gps track.
In a video I was editing at 60 fps I had a 37 second delay between actual motion and the movement of indicators in the overlay used. I also tried to re synch at different points in the video, but could never get the sync. to work. With the framerate at 30 I have yet to experience a sync. issue, but, I am still experimenting.

    Hi

Thanks for all the comments. Used the VIRB all weekend for filming our time trials in the race cars. We call that Sprinting here in the UK.

Sound was very good using the external Mic.

Data was still displaying in advance of the video and gps which I really would like resolved as it was the whole reason I chose the Elite version. Its makes no sense that they do not sync.

I am just uploading some video an when complete I will provide a link so people can see the issue.

Another that has become evident is that the Garmin Heart Rate monitor is over reading - Its showing 130 bpm at rest and 170 when driving - thats way to high - almost double reading. Is there a way to re set the device?

So I have now used the VIRB a number of times but GPS position and video which are in sync are not with the speed and Accelerometers.

It would be helpful if someone from GArmin would acknowledge there is an issue.

This is not a known issue. It would be helpful if you could somehow share one of your original video and GPX & FIT files.

Dropbox works pretty well for this, it's free (for up to 2GB, I believe). Put your MP4 file, the GPX and FIT file there and I can try to reproduce this here.

OK. Uploading this weekends video, gpx and fit files to https://www.dropbox.com/sh/82tgzsomtg269v9/AAAYBErSSOf-n-He8nRe9miga - no heart monitor worn because the data was worthless.

The previous weekends video, gpx and fit files were downloaded with VIRB Edit but only the MP4 is visible in the folder. Where are the other files stored and I will upload them all also.

So after a bit of searching I have used VRB Edit (Windows) to select the video and right click to save the GPS Log. But there is no option to save the FIT file associated with the video?
