VIRB Edit displaying two windows and showing only 1-2 inches of the top

When trying to play back any video file captured on my VIRB Elite, map data shows up, speed, altitude, etc. all display, except video. The video is (a) in two, side-by-side windows and (b) each window is approximately 1-1.5 inches of the top-most part of the video (if it were actually displaying correctly).

I have uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled VIRB Edit twice with no luck. There's little need for a VIRB if you have telemetry and can't show a video. A GoPro Hero3 would do the video just fine. My VIRB has the latest firmware and I am running the latest version of VIRB Edit.

My PC configuration:

Windows 7
i7-3770K Intel CPU @ 3.50GHz
32 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 video card

This is exceedingly frustrating. I expected a great deal better from Garmin as all my other Garmin products are stellar. Any assistance would be welcomed.

  • Hello,

I've got the same problem with Gforce GTX 650 video card. See thread: "Virb Edit Video Display Problem"

If you find a solution, please let me know.

    Best regards

Hi, I am very sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with VIRB Edit playback.

Another user has a very similar issue and is using a very similar graphics card: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?74875-Virb-Edit-Video-Display-Problem.

So we believe this is an issue with NVIDIA GTX 6X0 cards. We are looking into this and are trying to get a hold of one of these cards to find a fix.

I had this morning the same issue.
    But i have recoverd it.

    Open the Nvidia configuration display.
Highlight on the left side "Manage 3D settings"
Select on the right window "programm settings"
Push the Button "Add" to select a programm to customize.
    Add the Virb Edit program
Then i select the option "anisotropic filtering" and select "application controlled"

This was doing the trick by me.
Not based on knowledge, but pure by luck

    Thanks for sharing!

Which video card are you using?

FWIW My setting is standard on "anisotropic filtering" , "application controlled" (NVIDEA Quadro 2000).

I don't know if the ansitropic filtering must be set, I think it was enough to add the Gamin Virb edit programm.

The video card i have is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 220

Thanks, we ordered a couple of the problem cards so we can properly test this in house.

There was someone on the dutch forum who has a Gforce 9600M GT and also had the problem.
He solved it by doing what GPSTRACKS described.
  • Hi,

the solution from GPSTRACKS works also for my GEFORCE GTX650. The first "Virb edit" program start after changing the settings run into "runtime error". Second start worked. Now everything is OK.

    Thanks to GPSTRACKS.

This thread has been very helpful to us at Garmin -- keep those complaints coming.

    GTX 650

We installed a ASUS GEFORCE GTX 650 card here at Garmin but unfortunately (or fortunately depending upon your point of view) we could not reproduce the problem described by changing graphics card settings. If you have one of these cards, be sure to update your graphics driver from the GeForce site and / or use the work-around suggested elsewhere in this thread.

Without installing any drivers VirbEdit just showed a blank screen for VirbEdit video -- this is because we didn't have any DirectX driver installed for the machine. After installing with the CD that came with our card everything was fine.

We installed NVIDIAS GeForce software with latest driver version 327.23 for our testing. When playing and editing video, this medium-priced card ( the GTX 650) isn't working very hard when used with VirbEdit.

    AMD ATI HD 6450

We've also tested version 2.3.2 of VirbEdit with the ASUS / AMD-ATI HD 6450 graphics card with slow DDR3 memory and find that we can't play back Video. With the upcoming version 2.4.X VirbEdit plays OK but gauge update is a little slow. Probably the only reason to buy this card is if you are on a low budget or have a very quiet home and hate fan noise.

    INTEL integrate HD 4000 graphics

Doesn't play with version 2.3.2 because of a lack of support for 2048 pixel texture size limit as used in some overlays and because of overall low processing power. On the next 2.4.x version of VirbEdit (which will be out shortly) this will play because we have improved the software by reducing the load on the graphics subsystem and punting when a gauge such as the compass or line gauge needs a large texture. Still a bit choppy though.

The upcoming 2.4.x version of VirbEdit has been revised to put quite a bit less load on the Video Card and CPU so you all should see a much better frame rate on your next update with all graphics cards. We will of course continue to improve our software.
