Garmin Edge 810 Data with Garmin Virb

Anyone have problems importing the .FIT files with Garmin Virb videos?
I have problems synchronise the data with the video.
The final adjust on my video shows that my cycling has stop and km/h is approaching zero but then the km/h started to move first before my cycling start.
How does this happen?
Even if I didn't sync well, it should be cycling start first then km/h start a little later.
Anyone has solved this problem?
  • Very well? I tried this last saturday and it was a total mess with cadence missing, speed is up and down and I don't know what. Probably just a problem with the Virb hardware I guess:

Look at the Speed at 2:30. It's almost useless for MTB use. I had the Speed/Cadence sensor paired in the beginning.

Why can't you replace the gpx file? I use Virb Edit on Mac and that is no problem to replace the Virb GPX file with the one from my Edge. Only thing is they will be totally off time wise. Another thing I can't understand, two units with GPS whose time is off by 10-15 seconds.
Another Video where I have the GPX data from my Edge instead:

  • I have my speed, cadence, HR, and Power meters all connected to both my Edge 800 & Virb Elite. It works very well to use the Virb files with the GPS data included. I have noticed some lag on the Virb with the external sensors though. I will hear my free wheeling begin and then a couple seconds later will see the Cadence and Power go to zero.

The one issue that remains is that I would like to use the Temperature and Altitude from my Edge 800 (the Virb had my altitude -312 ft rather than 32 ft) but cannot replace (or add) the GPX file from my Edge 800.

You can certainly replace the track from the VIRB with the FIT file (not GPX; the Edge 800 records FIT) from the Edge 800. I've done it. After choosing a project, click on "Edit" and on the right you'll see a "Replace" button.

And yes, it'd be very nice if they allowed you to calibrate the altimeter. This is really annoying, since the VIRB wakes up hundreds of feet off every time.

I realize you should be able to do it but I certainly could not. Perhaps it wouldn't let me because my Edge 800 file lasted about 15 min longer after the Virb battery died. I was Kayaking and the Virb lasted 2 hrs 20 min and the Edge file was 2 hrs 35 min. I wanted to use the Edge file for both temperature and to show the complete loop I traveled.

So what happened when you tried to add that FIT file? Why did it not work? It should not matter if the track is longer than the video. You might have to align it, though.

It would ignore the Edge 800 file. I tried exiting and reopening Virb Edit and even started a new project but when I selected the file on the Edge 800 and selected "Add GPS", it would go back to the edit screen showing the incomplete Virb track.

Is the correct track there after you add it and restart? (Just to make sure there's no update error.)

If not, can you attach the FIT file in question and I'll try it out here.

I appreciate the effort being put in to get the software as stable as possible.

Here is a video clip showing the issue. You can see the gap in the loop where the Virb battery ran out. The Edge 800 has the entire loop and when I try to replace the GPS data with the Edge 800 file, it seems to just ignore what I'm doing.

    The file is attached.
  • Thank you for reporting and sorry about the trouble.

I can repro the exporting 8x speed clips issue easily. We'll get that fixed in 2.5 for sure. That was a silly oversight.

I am not sure why the tracking is off at the beginning and the end. It definitely doesn't seem right at the beginning at the video you posted. To dig into this I'd love to take a look at the real GPS data you used and the original videos.

Let me know if you'd be willing to help out and we'll figure something out how to share the files.

I'd be willing to share the raw video files and FIT file. The two files are a bit over 4 GB in size. I can upload them somewhere if you want to message me a location.

    Thanks!

    The file looks fine.

Two things I could think of that might be going on:

    1. Can you check the alignment. Go to 'Adjust' for the clip and check if you can see the full track there and if it's maybe aligned to start a few minutes after the track starts. That could explain why it doesn't start from the beginning.
    2. Do you have any files in C:\Users\{YOUR USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\VIRB Edit\Database\2\FIT? They would be in subfolders like 3866931741, that represent device ids. Close VIRB Edit and try renaming the FIT folder to FIT2 temporarily. Restart VIRB Edit.

Let me know how this goes and we'll work from there.

I usually have people use Dropbox to upload the files and then share the link. Sounds like your files would be larger than the free amount Dropbox gives though.

So Google Drive should be an option. You get 15GB for free and I don't think the file size limit is too small. Would that work? I don't have an FTP server handy that you could upload this to, sorry. :(

Just send me a PM if you manage to make the files available somehow.
