export issue

Hi I tried to export a video to a file (1080) and then to youtube using the export feature. Once it reached 100%, I got a similar error message in both cases:
- During export to file:
"There was an error exporting the video"

- During export to youtube:
"Error exporting video for youtube upload"

An idea on how to solve this?

Tks

    Thank You

Congrats to the team for getting out a product that works.
I have not done a lot of testing yet, but I just exported my first successful .mp4 w/gauge overlays that was longer than 2 minutes (9min23sec). It took 90 minutes to process, but as someone posted earlier, I can leave it to run and feel reasonably confident I'm going to come back to a finished product.
Since I griped hard yesterday, I wanted to be sure that I gave you kudos today.

Well, some progress at least. :) When you say crash, what does that mean exactly? Does it just fail to export with a regular error message? Do you get an error report dialog?

Also, when it fails are you trying to export videos with more than 1 clip in them? Have you ever had a failure with videos containing just 1 clip in 2.3.2?

The crash is the standard Windows "Application has stopped working" message without error report dialog.

The video is made of two clips indeed. First one is 4GB, second one about 300 MB.
The native recording resolution is 720p.
Tried once to export in 720p: export worked.
Tried once to export the same video in 480p: crash.

Haven't tried to export only one clip for the time being.
Doing some more tests, but the process is very lengthy even on my rather fast machine.
Will report more testing results here.

EDIT: crashed again at 480p (at about 40% export). This time I got the cash log below. Will try again @720p to check if it crashes in the native resolution.

EDIT 2: doesn't crash if exported in the native resolution (e.g. recorded in 720p, exported in 720p), crashes if exported in a different resolution (e.g. recorded in 720p, exported in 480p).

Thanks for the extra information. We might have a handle on that one. If you are interested in helping us trying to figure this out, send me a personal message with your email and we will see if we can get you a test build to verify the fix.
  • It would not hurt to throw a warning when importing non virb codec videos that might not export later, what comes as confusing is that this videos are imported ok in the library, I am able to edit the videos, add overlays, split, trim and playback them on Virb Edit without issue. It is only when exporting that I get the error.
I can see the reason behind the tie between Virb Edit and Virb footage but once in a while some additional footage coming from other device might be required to be added into a specific video edit and in those cases Virb Edit would not be suitable for a complete edit.

Yes a warning of the sort would be useful since you only find out when trying to export. I spent quite a bit of time yesterday working on Mobius Cam footage (I just got a Virb but I haven't found a way to mount to my cap unlike the Mobius :p) so I guess I'll look at what codecs the raw Virb footage uses and see if I can reencode my Mobius footage accordingly.

On 3 different computers I have a similar problem with the export. I use the GoPro hero 3 and the Garmin 705. Everything works fine, but it is not possible to export the video.

  • how could i put this nicely..

well I'm pretty pissed with this.. export just does NOT work.. three times in a row, bit after 50% without any reason CRASH, not to youtube, not to computer, no no no..

how is it possible for u guys to NOT to get this working..

edit: four times, no matter if overlays on or off.. still crash.. Unbelievable..

Nice find, I'd tried reencoding the video several ways but no luck. I suppose the audio can be muxed back in with avidemux possibly? Will try that when the export is done.

Yes, this is a known issue with non-VIRB videos. We might have a fix for that in the next release if all goes well.

I am very sorry to hear you are having trouble with export.

    Just to cover the basics:

    1. Are you running the newest version, 2.3.2?
    2. Are you exporting videos from a VIRB camera?

If 1 & 2 are true, please locate your debug log files and either attach them here or send them to [email protected]. The log files are located at C:\Users\{YOUR USERNAME}\AppData\Local\Temp\VirbEdit\2.3.2
