export issue

Hi I tried to export a video to a file (1080) and then to youtube using the export feature. Once it reached 100%, I got a similar error message in both cases:
- During export to file:
"There was an error exporting the video"

- During export to youtube:
"Error exporting video for youtube upload"

An idea on how to solve this?

Tks

Claude
  • Thanks for the swift response - I will certainly try that once its available.
  • I had problems uploading the video edited in Virb Edit, it was around 3 min long. I had a couple of seconds slow motion in it and speeded up some clips which I took away then it was no problem converting the video before uploading. But no it does not upload step 2 to youtube. I used iMovie for years and it has never been any problem with neither of above.

Please post this on the Mac forums. They should be able to assist you there.

Edit: I see you already did.
  • Mac version, success in exporting to YouTube a short video, fail in exporting a longer (15 min) video to YouTube, see here.

I am having an export issue as well. What exactly do the video settings (codec) need to be for the export to work? I would like to take the mp4 that I am using and re-export it through premiere pro under different settings and try virb edit export again. Thanks!
  • I still cannot export video. I've worked in IT Support for over 15 years, I know that early adopters are often taking a risk of running into bugs... but my patience is running out with this. I haven't been able to export videos for two weeks. Yeah yeah, in the grand scheme of things this isn't going to ruin my life but it still pisses me off considering I like the cameras and have been capturing a bunch of video.

We have races tomorrow and I wanted to post course preview videos tonight with nice overlays over them for everyone to see. The race organizer was all excited when I told him I hoped to have the video up tonight for viewing. It sucks when I have to explain that I might not be able to because Garmin's software hasn't been working right. Yet, I had hope that perhaps with the shorter video I could get it to work. I spend an hour figuring out what I want, trimming it and finding music but the stupid software continues to fail on exporting video and/or crashing completely. So fine... I'll forgo all the music and try to export just a 5 minute video of a single lap in order to get the overlays in place and then rebuild the project in Adobe Premiere Pro. So I create a new project with just the one clip and try to export just that but still nothing. Export -> Fail.

Seriously Garmin this is ridiculous. You're selling video cameras and your software that is made specifically for those cameras cannot export video. I'm sorry to rant but after spending over $1000 on two cameras, mounts and accessories I'm pretty pissed.

And it's not like I have some questionable computer that I'm working on. As I stated before it's got decent specs... a 3.4 GHz Core i7, 16GB RAM, SSD, plenty of disk space on the data drive and is a fresh build of Windows 8.1. It has NO issues when running anything else, only the VIRB Software. Please just get this working. If you don't have the staff to get it straightened out then hire more or do whatever you need to in order to get this fixed. If you don't get these core-to-the-product issues figured out word is going to spread and it will cut into your sales. And if you aren't taking this seriously, then rightly so and you deserve it. For a brand new product, ensuring that it works so that you gain positive word of mouth this should be top priority.

Is there any way to get on the "Official" beta testers list for your software updates as opposed to the "Unofficial list" that's comprised of your retail customers?

Same issue here, with a fresh new installation of latest Virb Edit (got my Virb a few days ago).
Cannot export the video (1 hour long, made of two clips (the virb cuts the video into files of 4GB) with overlays (power, HR, speed, GPS, etc), at any resolution, on two different computers. Always hangs after some time (not always at the same point) with the nasty and very helpful message "There was an error exporting the video".
    Hardware specs: Win7 x64 SP1, 32 GB RAM, i7 3770K, M4 256 GB SSD / Win7 x64 SP1, 4 GB RAM, i7 2677, 256 GB SSD.

All I can say is that I went into all kind of critical issues at almost any stage with the Virb (Virb freezes after 20 minutes and the video is lost, Virb cannot save the video after the ride and red light always blinks even after stopping recording (battery removal required), Virb Edit crashing from time to time, Virb Edit unable to export).

But well, this is still understandable for an early alpha release.

I have high hopes for 2.3.2 which will be out soon. Please give that one a try, and report back if that one works for you.

Really?, , when will it be out.
similar to an above poster I work in IT at a high level and despite spending hours trying to get the export working it just doesn't, truly appalling that one of the selling points is the easy editing etc.
It must the about the only piece of software I have used in the past few years that seems to have no debugging / log files, how can we even begin to trust you can troubleshoot and resolve our issues when it appears you have no debugging / log files.

I see my symptoms here, so I'll pile on:
Using win7 (per Garmin support suggestion) on a spanking new and clean computer bought specifically because my VIRB Elite requires Win7 or higher(where's that notification?!?)
I "create a video" - 1 minute long and then export to .mp4 - no problems.
I add gauges to said video and export it - no problems.
    I then try to create a 2 min video w/gauges - CRASH.

"VIRB Edit has stopped working would you like to:
    a) check online for a solution and close the program
    b) close the program
    c) call Garmin and rip some poor guys ear off over the fact that their product is amazingly unstable and is just plain not ready for public consumption"

I was happy to spend $400 for a camera that I could use to replace my Forerunner. What corks me is the fact that it doesn't work. Maybe I'm just being picky - I suppose it does take video, the Garmin software just can't export/edit it so anybody else can see it.
Based on what I'm reading there is no debug info I can give you, but if you need any other info, I'm happy to try to provide it.
And just so I know, what is the time limit on returning it based on this issue?
