VIRB gpx import from other Garmin devices

Hi guys,

This is my first post here but I have been a Garmin user for quite a few years and I am now looking at buying a VIRB camera. I have not decided between the VIRB and the VIRB elite I had a look on the forums as well as Garmin's website but I couldn't find the exact answers I was looking for.

As far as I understood the only difference between the two is the GPS sensor, the accelerometer and the WiFi connectivity. Here are my questions:

1. Since I will be using the camera with my EDGE 500 or 62st I was wondering if it will be possible to overlay the GPS data from these devices to the video in the VIRB editing program?

2. Furthermore can I get the .fit file to overlay the video, including the temperature data from my EDGE 500 or I'll have to convert it to .gpx? If so, will I still get the temp data on?

3. Is there a remote control option for the 62st?

4. From what I read on here, they are working on a map or course overlay for the future updates, but is that going to be possible in case the imported GPS data is from my other two Garmin devices (if it's possible)

All the best,
Kris

    Hmm, that sounds like a bug. We'll look into it.

    Having elevation in feet and distance in meters will work in 2.2.

    There is a Mac section for VIRB Edit as well. This is the Windows section.

    But I don't think your OS actually matters for your question. Power data should be displayed if you import the FIT file from your Edge. The power data won't be on the VIRB Elite if you have the Vector paired with the Elite.
  • Problem adding GPS track

    When I click on the Add GPS track button

    The program exits to desktop.

    I am running Windows 7 64 bit and the latest download from the Garmin site.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    When you click the green "add GPS" button, you can add a GPS track in .gpx or .fit format to your video.
    Lets say you have made a video with a VIRB and want to link it to a track you've recorded with some other GPS.
    Download the track (.gpx or .fit) to your PC.
    Import your video into VIRB-Edit, make a video and when you come to the screenshot-screen, click the green button and select the track you downloaded from your GPS.
  • As before

    Thanks for your reply but as I mentioned, when I click on the green 'Add GPS button', the program terminates immediately. I have now loaded the software on another PC running 64 bit Windows 7 and the same happens.

    sorry, misread it.

    No problem here (except for VIRB Edit 2.1.1 and 2.2 not wanting to export non-VIRB video).

    Win7 Pro x64.
    Intel i7 870
    16GB RAM
    Boot = C:\ 450GB sata600
    Data = D:\ 5x 500GB (RAID5) = 2TB sata300
    DVD-writer
    BD-writer
    some external HDD's
    Videocard = NVIDIA Quadro 2000
  • Windows 7 32 bit

    I have installed Virb edit on a friends Windows 7 32 bit laptop and I don't get the program terminating problem, in fact it seems to work very well apart from when I try to export the video. I get all the errors mentioned in this thread.

    I do look forward to Garmin sorting out these bugs as it could become a very worthwhile piece of software. As it stands I will stick with using the Dashware software, this just seems to work even though it takes several hours to re-encode an hours worth of video.
